You can also mix in brassicas but you want to go very light as they can shade out the young clover.

Very true, I made that mistake myself! It grew in so thick nothing else got a start, not even weeds!

Brassicas should not be planted more than two years in the same plot due to disease. They are an annual and are most productive when planted alone. There are several seed mixes out there today which include brassicas but you might be concerned with the disease aspect if you plan to replant the same plot every year.

That's the first I've heard of this. I've been trying to learn as much as I could about brassica's. Could you explain a little more or post a link to a good info source? I'm always up for a little more info!

Re: are brassica\'s an annual?

There are fungal and other diseases that can get into your soil. Planting some types of crops or plots year after year on top of each other are not suggested.

On that note though, read a response from someone in here before that claimed to be on I think it was the 5th year of planting brassicas in the same plot with no ill effects to the plants. Likewise, I have an old retired neighbor who is also a bit of a farmer who plants corn in the same plot in his garden year after year, and he consistently has some of the best corn yields from a small garden I have ever seen despite what some suggest is a major no no with corn.

For me, I will try to rotate as best as I can. This is my first year other than several years ago trying full draw to use any brassicas. Am a bit anxious to see how well they draw and help to hold the deer.
