mike Posted September 12, 2006 Report Share Posted September 12, 2006 how many of you carry a pistol while bowhunting? i started last year after a few situations i had. i had one heck of a coon problem last year. they where everywhere even would come up my tree! and we have had people saying they have seen mountain lions around iowa, just curious on your thoughts and practices! elkoholic Posted September 12, 2006 Report Share Posted September 12, 2006 Re: side arm While elk/deer hunting (or just hiking) in areas known to have high grizzly bear concentrations I will carry a pistol. My pistol of choice is a Taurus Raging Bull chambered in .454 Casull. In reality, a can of bear spray would probably be a better choice. There have been numerous times it has left the holster, but as of yet, I have not fired it as a means of self defense. Hopefully, I never will. [/ QUOTE ] The only way this would be legal in Iowa is if you had a permit to carry .... otherwise it is illegal to carry a pistol while bow hunting.
