Guest silver
Last night I was watching about 40 deer in a hay field. For about 30 minutes 2 six pointers carried on fighting. At times the noise got pretty loud. This shows me 2 different things. One, it is never too early to do a little rattling. Two, no need to rattle early because the 2 mature bucks in the field never even looked in the direction of the fight. Interesting.

wtnhunt
Re: Deer fighting See new things and something different seems like almost every year. Saw some sparring last year in mid October while bowhunting. Saw my first all out fight last year on the opening afternoon of the youth hunt with my oldest daughter. rifleman25
Re: Deer fighting The youngsters out there were just probably sparring or playing, and it was not likely a real battle for dominance. I would just chalk it up to a cool sighting in the woods.

ODH
Re: Deer fighting probably just a sparring match I'd guess, normally around my area the pre rut normally starts in October, and that sparring would show that pre rut is probaly already starting

MrWiggely
Re: Deer fighting Well my opinion for what it is worth, is that early season rattling can work so long as you are not too aggressive. A little sparing and pushing is about all you want to imitate. As the season heats up, just prior to the rut, pick it up to a full blown rattling session. Squirrelhunter91
Re: Deer fighting I watched a young six pt and a 3.5 yr old 8pt fight the other day.. The 6pt got his butt whooped, but put up a good fight for the most part. 30 days folks!! 30 days!!
Guest silver
Re: Deer fighting It's funny how some mild sarcasism goes right over their heads. My point is----rattling early does not hurt anything but may not be effective on mature bucks. No offense taken. I welcome the feedback.
