Live on a dirt road??

Who all lives on a dirt road?

We have been trying to gets ours paved for a long time now. Seems like we are the last road in the whole county that isn't paved.

A petition was passed around to get it paved and 2 people refuse to sign it. ( In order for the county to pave this road they have to be granted "right-of-way" by all the owners on the road.)

They think it will raise their property taxes. And one of them thinks it will create run-off on their property. ( They don't even live on this road) But there is no evidence to support that idea.

Really ticks me off that 2 people can prevent a road from getting paved.

Re: Live on a dirt road??

Lived on a clay road in Florida for several years.

Used to be about .8 of a mile of chert gravel road coming to our driveway which is about a quarter of a mile of gravel. The county put in what I guess was called a "tarred and chipped" layer over the gravel road not long after we bought the property, but I still maintain about a quarter of a mile of gravel drive.

I live 3 miles down a dirt road. Wouldn't have it any other way. Thats part of living in the country.

Well, you might feel differently if you had a road like ours. Everytime it rains, it leaves huge gorges across the road in many places. Never mind the fact that teenagers find it humorous to spin doughnuts at the end of the road EVERY SINGLE day which creates a permanent rut that makes driving a nightmare.

Also...........I just hate having to wash my truck all the flippin time.

Clay roads are horrible. If it rains it's bad. If it doesn't rain...........it's worse. The dust is so bad. Everything in our yard gets a thick orange coat of dust on it. Then the road will get so bumpy you have to geta front end alignment on a regular basis.

If you don't beleive me.......read my "book". grin.gif

Re: Live on a dirt road??

bout 100 yrds. worth.

Up until about two or three years ago we had a state highway not far from here that was still dirt. They finally paved it, now they call it the highway to nowhere. Only good thing about it is that it is the highway to the public land that I hunt on. Now I can leave work and be in the woods in about 15 mins. instead of 45 mins.
