clayman
One of the most incompetant people on our staff quit last week for a new job, and I got the great fortune of inheriting a bunch of her projects until her replacement is hired in a couple of weeks. Well, I'm finding that she didn't complete some projects from nearly two months ago, and I'm having to recreate the wheel. Each time I turn around I find something new that she screwed up and I have to fix.
mike
Re: Cleaning up other people\'s messes at work i hear ya brother! seems i spend half my time finishing things others started! but look at the bright side, maybe the reason we have to do it is cause the boss nows we are the ones that will get it done and done right! sskybnd
Re: Cleaning up other people\'s messes at work i agree with you hunter, when the boss has confidence in your ability to fix others screwups than thats saying some thing about you, i used to tell them being im doing the work for two than i should get a least half what she or him was making, i normaly hear that famous chuckle, than i know you can do it. but it all ends with a pat on the back. whitch is job sacurity. AJ
Re: Cleaning up other people\'s messes at work That's my job. I direct engineers to do software verification. When they screw everything up I step in and get everything back on track. It's a busy job for me. I have to coordinate the fix of problems they find and problems they create. Nick
Re: Cleaning up other people\'s messes at work Feelings mutual. I work in a factory with 3 shifts and 4 other people in my department. Im the lucky one who gets stuck on second shift by myself. So i get the crap jobs and get to sort out the junk ran by the other 4 clowns in the department.

horst
Re: Cleaning up other people\'s messes at work I do it almost daily, and theyre not even screw ups anyone on my crew makes. Some reason people that have a bad experience with contractors seem to carry over the experience to the next guy.Imagine telling an already irate homeowner that not only is thier roof a disaster but your going to have to take out a couple cielings to fix water damage thats turning to mold

Newarcher
Re: Cleaning up other people\'s messes at work I once worked accounts receivable for a local flower nursery. Well, we all know how invoicing works...the company sends you a bill and then you pay it and either include the invoice number on the check or include a stub so that the person processing it knows how to apply it to individual invoices. Well, I was promoted to manager and asked to review some accounts where we sent out invoices showing several bills outstanding where the landscapers said they already paid the bills. I came to find out that the previous manager--in a bid to reduce delinquencies and write offs--was applying payments received to the oldest invoices first instead of the actual invoices intended to be paid. It made it impossible to tell the landscaper which invoices were outstanding in any correct fashion. I spent weeks and weeks reconciling outstanding balances and arguing with landscapers. I feel your pain friend! New

clayman
Re: Cleaning up other people\'s messes at work I can't go into detail about where I work and the politics of who gets hired. But if I told you it would likely be immediately understood. I intend to discuss these issues with my supervisor and others, but the people who brought her back knew about her incompetence when they rehired her. Thankfully I only have to deal with the mess until the new person is hired to take her place. I do feel sorry for that individual.
wtnhunt
Re: Cleaning up other people\'s messes at work Been there done that, will likely do it many more times throughout my life. I really despise trying to figure out and fix other peoples screw ups or undone work when you have no clue what they were doing or what they were thinking.
