I really don't think that's a good place for young folks to hang out. Could be dangerous also. ...just my personal opinion

There was some information on the news about that the other day. One of the national news casters found a 14-year old girl and contacted her. Within something like 30-seconds he had a reply. Within a few minutes he had everything about her including high school, name, descriptions (pics), contact info, etc. Pretty scary.

Personally ive never surfed myspace.

Re: Myspace addicts?

I have a 15 year old with one. She has to meet certain conditions to keep it. First I have her username and password. She cannot post any pics of herself and if someone uses some vulgarity towards her they are blocked and deleted.

Maybe I am a strict dad, but I am trying to protect my babies.

Re: Myspace addicts?

The only way anyone could get the info was if she put it there. Same with anywhere else on the net.

She must have lied about her age, also. Anyone 16 and under has their profile set to private by default. No one can see any info on the page unless they are added to your "friends" list. It's not the sites fault, but the parents for allowing her to create the page without supervision. I agree with you that sites like that are full of predators waiting for thier chance. My point was, all of that info could just as easily be posted here, too, or any other site on the net. That's why the parents need to keep tabs on what thier kids are doing on the net.

I agree with that 100%. The problem is that most parents dont pay that much attention anymore. Electronics are baby sitters these days. As long as the kids arent being demanding or a nuisance they are not checked on.

With what you said she probably did lie about her age. The sad part is you should see some of the situations kids are putting themselves in thinking it harmless. A buddy of mine pulled up some rating sights where you rate how "How" someone was. Ill bet you money a good 30-40% of the GIRLS couldnt be over 16 and they were taking pics that kids simply should not be taking..... Let alone posting on the net.

In the end its the parents responsibility but most simply arent taking that responsibility. $20 or so for a program such as net nanny and a decent set of eyes and you could keep your kids out of most of those rooms. People are simply oblivious.

I guarantee you if the parents (as a whole) actually took the time to pull up profiles/ pics of their kids they would freak!

If he messages her and in 30 seconds got a response and knew virtually everything about her, well then that's her stupid fault for putting it out there, and the idiotic parents fault for not caring enough about their daughter to know what she's doing.

The internet is not an omnipotent being, it only knows what someone has put into it.

That being said, my myspace profile link is here on my profile info, so, anyone who sees this, feel free to drop me a message.
