hutchies
I got a Craftsman LT1000. Since the drought we have not done much mowing. Here is my problem. When I went to fire up the mower it will start and run but only with full choke. If you push the choke in it dies. I drained the fuel tank and put fresh gas in, changed the fuel filter, pulled the carb and checked the float and jets. All looked clean. Help me I am loosing my mine. There is a small black box that connects in the fuel line.
Mirage
Re: Calling all lawnmower shadetree mechanics try changing the plug? sound like the carb is gummed up, is it getting plenty of gas? wondering if the filter is stopped up. sounds like a plug though
Gator
Re: Calling all lawnmower shadetree mechanics Sounds like it may be sucking air, try blowing through the fuel line TOWARDS the tank, and see if you hear air coming from somewhere
hutchies
Re: Calling all lawnmower shadetree mechanics I put a new filter on. I think it is getting just enough gas to keep her running. I did shoot carb clearner back thru the lines and it was bubbling in the tank so I know it is not clogged. I am wondering what that little black box is.
Mirage
Re: Calling all lawnmower shadetree mechanics not sure i will look on mine when i get home i have the lt2000, I still think you plug is bad. wtnhunt
Re: Calling all lawnmower shadetree mechanics Have to agree with trying to change the plug. Some of those mowers have electric fuel pumps. Black box, not familiar with your model mower, but my old crafstman has a 15 hp kohler and has an electric fuel pump inline. If it is inline in your fuel system, it might be a pump.
Guest Andrea
Re: Calling all lawnmower shadetree mechanics Dealing with a messed up mower right now too Hutch. My husband can't figure it out either..........
Mirage
Re: Calling all lawnmower shadetree mechanics is your gas tank located higher then the engine, if so it is probably gravity fed but if its in the back and low it probably has a elect fuel pump
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Calling all lawnmower shadetree mechanics try the plug and make sure the carburator is not gummed up and sticking, the cross shaft could be gummed and could be all the grief. wtnhunt
Re: Calling all lawnmower shadetree mechanics [ QUOTE ] Found your problem: "I got a Craftsman LT1000" New [/ QUOTE ] Sorry but that is kind of funny. Had our old craftsman mowing nearly 4 acres once to twice a week here. The kohler engine is about the only thing that had held up over the 9 years I had been using it. The deck was just about completely wore out, was on the second set of madrels and they were worn out again. About a month and a half ago, had a problem with the ignition, would not get any spark. After spending a lot of time working on it cleaning all the connections tracing the wiring and scratching my head, I figured out the ignition control module was bad and in the process the starter which had been kind of dragging prior to this problem anyways finally took a dump on me, and so the starter is also shot. The wife decided it was time for me to get a new mower, one that will last. Stepped up to a new kubota diesel. Will never own another craftsman mower ever again. Newarcher
Re: Calling all lawnmower shadetree mechanics I'll never own another Crapsman as long as I shall live. They build everything off spec so you have to buy parts for the engines...despite being a Kohler or Briggs....from SEARS. I am still waiting for the set of carberator parts....they tried 6 different times to ship them to me with no success. They refuse to move out of the 'order and pay for it and we will call you when it comes in mentality'. New
hutchies
Re: Calling all lawnmower shadetree mechanics We have had only a few minor problems with this one but other than that it has ran great for the last 5 years. popgun
Re: Calling all lawnmower shadetree mechanics Be sure your Air Cleaner is clean.. I bought my little 317 Deere in 1981 and shot these photos last week. It has a 4’deck, and I never wash it off with water. I blow the grass off of it with a shop-vac. I change the oil once a year, and keep it garaged when not using it. I don’t baby this mower once I decide to use it, as you can see from the following photos. Before: After: Another firing lane Before: After: It’s still going strong. It has a Kohler engine. I love this thing. ….popgun
okiedog
Re: Calling all lawnmower shadetree mechanics Hutch, not trying to get off your subject. I've owned 2 Craftsmen Garden tactors. The 1st one ran flawless for 10 years. Finally trashed the motor due to an error on my fault. The second I bought 3 years ago. Had motor replaced within 6 months, and been worked on atleast once each summer. In fack its not running right as we speak. I gave over 2k for this last one. What mower is going to give me the most for my money? I mow roughly 6-7 acres. I cant afford to spend 4k+ on a ZTR. What to, what to do? Guest shank
Re: Calling all lawnmower shadetree mechanics If I was to bet I would say you problem is the carb and if you take it back off you will see 3 or 4 very small holes when you look in from the back(end touching motor) and if you take a bread tie and force it into the small holes it will run. You will also have to hold the butterfly open to see all of the holes. I hope this gets you going.
