Outfitter Business

A friend and I have been discussing starting an outfitter business when we get back from the deployment we're on. I was wondering if anyone here has any knowledge with this line of work and could share some wisdom. We have crunched numbers and feel that we could make this work. We are both from Oklahoma, and with Ok wildlife managment programs the deer are getting larger and healthier. Thanks for your responces.

Re: Outfitter Business

I have been outfitting hunters for the last 7 seasons while working in an oil field in the off season. Get a good place to stay, good food, and numbers of respectable animals, keep yopur prices fair and your set. I also recommend working with a booking agen such as hunts.net to get more hunters in your door from the start. i have worked with hunts.net from the start and have had a wonderful and successful relationship with them.

Re: Outfitter Business

We are looking at making a purchase of land in a prime Ok hunting county. The land for sell has 800 acres. I currently hunt my father-in-laws land (about 1000 acres) and that is more than sufficient. Can you run guided hunts on property that size? Maybe you can help with that one rifleman25. Thanks you guys for the responses.

As long as you limit the number of hunters you can get by with 1k acres. If you know you only have X numbers of good bucks then don't sell any more hunts than that. You might also want to offer some free doe hunts to aid in your management to some local kids, senior citiczens, or vetrans. Have a guide with them to make sure they only kill the older mature does to avoid killing a young button buck that could turn into a kepper one day. You might also want to put several protein feeders out and feed a product like legends deer feed or record rack. These will all help you. As long as your property is not over grazed you should be fine. Just don't get cought up with the money and grow big old mature bucks. Learn about aging them on the hoof if you don't right now and make it a point to not shoot a buck or let anyone shoot a buck under 5 1/2 yrs old. It may take a while to get to that point but once you do your set. Just think like this, offer a hunt that you would be willing to travel and pay your price for.
