See choppers flying really low around here from time to time, and been told that there have been some who have grown it back here before, so I would tend to assume that they are looking for illegal crops. Well, an update from the Drug Task Coordinator..they did a fly-over with their infra-red sensors to determine how many plants were out there. It seems that they continued a little further down the ditch than I had thought. They did do a sit on it the other night with no luck..Where I hunt is down an isolated road, refered to as "sinkhole road" by most people in the area. The locals on the road know every time someone comes and goes on the road, so with myself being out there, and the under-covers, and the chopper..I'm kinda wondering if the growers didn't get tipped off. I do have a few suspicions on possible responsible parties, but I will let the authorities do their best before mentioning them. This is redneck country to the extreme, so I want to keep it as low profile as possible, for everyones safety. The worst thing is, where all of this stuff is growing is so near the main bedding area, I'm not sure yet what effect it is going to have on the deer movement and for how long....Just some personal info here, I have three step-children and one boy of my own. My oldest step son took his very first deer with me when he was 13, with a bow. He has grown up to love hunting. His junior year, his Grandmother developed cancer that spread very fast. His Grandmother was in severe pain and her and his Grandfather did something very drastic..they both commited suicide. That threw all of the kids into a whirlwind of emotions...they loved them but hated what they did. My oldest step son then got involved with drugs. It started with marajuana and drinking, then a brief usage of meth. He ended up quitting school and his job, started selling, spent 30 days in jail....Me and my wife had to take some drastic steps to get him clean, but it worked. Now he is working and pursuing getting his GED. I hope this year I will get to hunt with him again, I have missed having him as my hunting partner for the past three years.. I hate to be the new guy in town and get labeled so soon. Some of these people I might be able to get permission from to bow hunt. I'm sure you see the dilema I'm in. Yeah, I had thought about either posting a sign "Get your stuff out of here now", or just going out there with some Roundup and spraying it, but with as much that is out there, someone it growing more for dealing than for personal use. If it's not the smell, their activity in the area will keep deer alerted for awhile but it will pass after it's all taken care of. Well, the Drug Task Force officers sat on it for a few days, but ended up going out and just removing the crop. They took out 42 plants..someones gonna be PISSED! But I have more reason to be pissed.
