slugshooter
I am currently in the market for a new treestand, and I have had my mind made up for the last 2 years to get a Summit Viper. I noticed that they now have the Viper SS, with the sound dampening foam skin. They have them at Dicks for $249, but they have the Viper Classic for $149. Here are my plans, the one negative to the Summit is the Mossy Oak camo, so why would I want more with the foam camo skin. I plan to buy a classic, buy the extra rapid climb stirrups for $25, and then buy some Realtree Hardwoods tape to wrap around the arms and such, all coming in at less than the $249 for the camo wrapped one. Now all I need is some Realtree fabric to cover the seat with, and I'm good to go.

wtnhunt
Re: My plans for a Summit Viper That looks good. Put the rapid climb stirrups on my python stand after the season ended last year. Might end up using some of the insualting tape on it like in the pic. LifeNRA
Re: My plans for a Summit Viper Could it be that the classic is made of steel? There could be a BIG weight difference! I have the Summit Goliath. Which is not much different than the Viper. The Goliath just has a wider top section, which is why I wanted it, more room! I dont think you need the foam skin that now comes with the stands. I can buy it, but I wont. Being fairly new to being in a tree, I bought the biggest weight capacity that I could find in the Summit line that had my interest. The Viper also, would have suited me just fine for a 190 pound hunter. But the larger top section is nice. Better check the weight of that classic, it could be like carrying around a large boat anchor!
NY911Bowhunter
Re: My plans for a Summit Viper OMG the Viper is sooooo light! And looks good in that Mossy Oak! But I don't likr the skins - they peel something fierce!

He was talking about the Viper Classic, that could be steel and very heavy compared to our aluminum stands we have. LMBO! I seen a steel stand at Wal-mart last year, IT WAS 35 POUNDS!!!!! NY911Bowhunter
Re: My plans for a Summit Viper Thats what I meant - the Viper as opposed to the Viper Classic.... It is worth the extra $$$$ for the lightness!

Sounds like a great plan buddy!

slugshooter
Re: My plans for a Summit Viper According to the specs, the Viper SS is 20 pounds, and the Classic is 26 pounds. I can't remember how much my Hunters View weighed, all I know is the Summit was lighter, but that was an X4 or X5 that someone had. I really don't want to pay the extra, but I like how light the Viper SS is. Plus, that Hunters View was an aggravating thing to set up and carry, clang, clang, clang. I had to buy velcro strips to tightem everything down so it would stay together.
LifeNRA
Re: My plans for a Summit Viper Well, I know the Viper and Goliath very well since last year. I know I would not want one if they were made of steel! LOL! Mine is about as heavy as I want to go! 21 pounds(thats not counting the three bags and the stuff inside, that are attached to it either!), bow and a fanny pack is about all I want to carry! VtBowhunter
Re: My plans for a Summit Viper LifeNRA nailed it.......The SS is aluminum, and the Classic is Steel, and you definately notice the weight difference when it's time to lift them. Guest PixelDoctor
Re: My plans for a Summit Viper Can't go wrong with any Summit stand... I have the Goliath and the Viper Classic. The classic is steel and weighs more but it is a great stand and you cannot go wrong for the money. Oh the new skins are great but Summit is having problems with them peeling but they are standing behind it. Jeff
Bowhntr
Re: My plans for a Summit Viper I have two of the viper SS's and love them. Be careful though buying the Classic over the SS. Like someone else said the classic is steel and the SS is aluminum. There is a big weight difference between the two.

hunterfisherman
Re: My plans for a Summit Viper The camo on the tape is secondary. I put the insulated tape on because the metal makes my feet cold, even with good boots on. This helps me out when the season runs into winter and it gets cold. Guest ILBrad
Re: My plans for a Summit Viper I have been looking at the new Viper as well 20-22 pounds is definitely a reasonable weight. 35 is a little excessive, I want to go get in a tree not hump a ruck on a forced march lol.
