Well guy's/gals I finally got to take the .270 to the range today... MaMa Mia I love that weapon.... cool.gifcool.gif

I set out 2 targets at each, of the yardages indicated,,, 50,75,100 ..... I had this weapon bore sighted so I should have been able to atleast been on paper at 100 so I give that target a whirl,,, to my suprise NOT EVEN CLOSE,,, So I chalked that first round up to me being rusty,,, so I let a second round go at the 100 yard maker... AGAIN NOT EVEN CLOSE..... Great job bore sighting UH... crazy.gifcrazy.gif

So I say lets do this the old fashion way,,, lets start at 50 and work my way up.... smirk.gifsmirk.gif

1 box of FUSION 130's later and Im 1.5" high and DEAD on at 100 yards.... YES,YES,,, I love this weapon what joy it is to shoot... smile.gif and for those of you that WARNED me about the BOSS Systems nasty loudness..... THANKS, I don't think my hearing would have survived that thundering crack without good hearing protection... wink.gif

I'd say the Browning is set and ready to accompany me to Colorado this Oct. ,,,, cool.gifsmile.gif

Sorry, NO pics the wife had the digital.. frown.gif

Are you dead-on @ 100yards? I like to be 3" high @ 100 yards-----then you're dead-on out @ 300 yards. I shoot an 06---but I think a 270 would just about the same. 3" high @ 100 yards is a rough rule of thumb for most rifles. CB

I would think about it especially if you're coming out west. Eastern whitetail-----dead-on @ 100 yards is OK.

Awesome Luke! I too own an Browning A-Bolt Medallion in 270. But I dont have the BOSS. Actually didnt want it. I heard that the sound blasts back at you like crazy! But as Bob has said, I would get back out there and get about 2-3" high above the bull. One box! crazy.gif I must have had better luck at all the bore-sighting I had done! I dont like the barrel to heat up too bad when sighting in. Three shots, break, then maybe three more if needed. After that Ill let the gun cool down. Go home and go back later or the next day. That first shot got to be on the mark, just like hunting with a cold barrel.

Re: .270 A-Bolt Sight-In

John and Bob you misunderstood what I stated,, grin.gifgrin.gif here's what I said Im 1.5" high and DEAD on at 100 yards .... wink.gifwink.gif

Guess I should have stated it a little better... What I meant is that at 100 yards my elavation is 1.5" high and the dead on meant I was perfect with windage... wink.gifwink.gif

Yea, John my gunshop didn't do a very good job with the boresighting,, I usually get better results from them.. crazy.giffrown.gif It actually took me a considerable amount of time to sight in this rifle just for the reason you stated, I didn't want a hot barrel. So I waited in between 3 shot groups until I had what I wanted at 100 yards... wink.gif

The BOSS System I could have lived without, but it was on the rifle and now that I have shot with it it's not so bad.... wink.gif Just super loud... grin.gif

I figure 1.5" at 100 yards with the 130 grn. FUSIONS would give me 250 yrds capability.... Am I wrong ??

Here's a pic. of my weaponn....

Re: .270 A-Bolt Sight-In

I have little if any faith in boresighting. With a bolt action I remove the bolt, sight down the bore at an object and adjust the cross hairs to the same spot.

I will set up a target at 25 yds. fire a round at the bull, resight on the bull then adjust the cross hairs to the shot hole. This really saves on ammo.

From there you can move out to 50, 75, or 100 yds. and you will be close. Make your final adjustments and you are good to go.

If you want to sight in for more than 100 yds. I would suggest you place a target at the desired yardage and go for it. Guessing at the shot placement doesn't do it for me. I want to know exactly where the shot is going to be at any yardage I may encounter.

It would be easy to spoil an expensive trip by missing a shot of a lifetime by not spending the time to do it right.

Re: .270 A-Bolt Sight-In

Just curious, what kind of a group did you get with the Fusion bullets?? I have seen a few guys shooting them and they haven't impressed me with the groups they shot!

In fact, I was at the range on Friday morning and there was a guy there who was shooting them in an '06 and his group (3 shots) at 100 yards was about 2 1/2"!

I had handloads in my '06 with Hornady SST's and got a 3 shot group at 100 yards that measured just over .75" and that was with a H&R handi-rifle!

Re: .270 A-Bolt Sight-In

At 100 yards with the FUSION WIN. 130 grn. I was getting about 1/2" groups or a little less...

That was with a fairly warm barrel, so I would expect better from a cold barrel.. Too bad it got too late for me to really let the barrel cool down, so I could try it..

Over all I didn't think the FUSIONS were that bad.... I may have to give the Federals and the Remingtons a try tho.... wink.gif

Re: .270 A-Bolt Sight-In

I had a browning a bolt medalion with boss chambered for the 270. Really nice rifle, very accurate. It was to loud for me to hunt with. I called browning and they mailed me a deal to replace to boss with. Just unscrew the boss and screw this one back on. It was not ported so it wasn't so loud. It will kick a little harder though. Browning didn't charge me a dime for that either. Excellent customer service.
