slughunter Posted September 16, 2006 Report Share Posted September 16, 2006 So today I called my buddy jakes house to see about hunting his far opening morning (tommorow) and he wasnt there, so I talked to his dad a little bit and asked about hunting out there tommorow and he said he didnt really want anyone out there till after gun season which is mid november. so at this point im not sure if I have a place to hunt besides my farm which is really a hard place to hunt. so I am really bummed out at this point and dont know what im going to do. just had to get it out and share it with someone. -shane Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I just am not sure what else I can do, I ran an add in the paper, knocked on doors, and have about 15 freinds looking for land but still have not had any luck. sskybnd Posted September 16, 2006 Report Share Posted September 16, 2006 Re: Biggest bummer i sure something will open up for you. ive had to work for a farmer for three months before, cutting hay bailing it, putting it up, than he would let me hunt, after that we became friends, i didnt have to work so hard but did help him through out the year after that i could hunt the land any time i wanted. maybe that approach could help you get a place to hunt, trade your time for hunting rights. [/ QUOTE ] my farm is so hard to hunt cause we we only own 20 acres and all the farms around us are huge and have atleast 2 people hunting on them and so all the deer have been shot and then my neighbor got damagfe control tags and has shot 39 deer in the last year leaving the herd very low. I have only seen 1 doe on our land in the last 3 weeks. but things are looking good I might have a new place to hunt, my dad knows a guys with 85 acres that might be able to give me acess to it and he has a brother with a farm and his dad has a farm so he might get me a good hookup. and one of my brothers workers has a big peice of family land that he might let me on. and to make things better I might be able to go back to jakes farm in mid oct. so this isnt a big bummer anymore. -shane Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

You said you haven't "seen" many deer, is that through scouting or just general observation? With all of the pressure in the surrounding woods and what sounds like minimal pressure in yours, there may be bigger bucks in there than you realize! I have seen bucks bed up several times in very small pockets of cover, I mean about a 10x10 foot area. I could be wrong, after all you know the area best, but I definately wouldn't overlook it. hoosierhunter47 Posted September 18, 2006 Report Share Posted September 18, 2006 Re: Biggest bummer definetly wouldnt knock your acreage, being from indiana and central indiana at that, ive hunted some urban zones and wow some of the best hunting has come from hunting a small area that is thick and NO potential..from what i thought anyways, then when you least expect it you hear the sky falling behind you and then there he is..the buck of a lifetime..be patient and keep your head up!!
