You can't kill a deer sitting at home on the couch.

LOL, actually I have just about been tempted to take a shot at a deer out the sliding glass door on more than one occasion and although I have not yet ever done it I have given a lot of consideration to hunting from the roof of our house during parts of the rifle season.

but if you hunt long enough, you will most likely lose a deer or 2 in your lifetime. Learn from your mistakes, and give it all you have before giving up.

[/ QUOTE ]

Lol it doesnt take time to lose a deer or three in your life...all I have to say is practice, practice, practice.

When your in your deer stand...take a deep breath, smell the air... and savor the moment...look around you and take it all in. Nature and all its wonder right there before your eyes. You are one of the lucky ones...

Hunt Safe....and pass on the tradition.

I figured some smart aleck would come back with that. grin.gif

But seriously, what I meant was you have to put in your time to get your deer. If you only hunt one or two mornings a season, you can't realistically expect to take a big deer.

LOL. Was being honest, not really trying to be a smart aleck texan, but seriously I do agree with you more time in the field and more patience will lead to better oportunities. Seems my best luck has come when I have been most relaxed with my hunting just kicking back enjoying nature.

Another tip is watch what other animas are doing and be alert to them. Birds and squirrels can often tip you off to an approaching deer you might not otherwise realize is on its way.

Re: Any little tips or tricks we can offer new hun

If you hunt from home made tree stands, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS check them before the season starts to make sure they are safe & secure. Replace any old rotting wood or any wood that you feel isn't secure.

The same applies if you use a climber, metal ladder stand or tripod. Check them & make sure they are in proper working order..................

And like many have said, BE PATIENT.

always use a safety harness while in the stand, always!! live to hunt another day!

you can use tampons (unscented ones) new ones too grin.gif to put scent on and hang from tree limbs. The little string makes hanging easy!!

Have fun and be patient, its hunting and most of the time its waiting and waiting......

I don't care if you shot a buck last year, sight in your gun again. Sight in your gun EVERY year!!

Also make sure the action and the rest of the gun is cleaned and well lubed.

[/ QUOTE ]

Good advice there and dont wait until the last minute to check your gun. Give yourself enough time to make sure it is right and fix it if it is not.

This was not a good thing for me because now my wifes always pesters me to stay home since I can possibly shoot a deer from the house vs going to camp or just out to my hunting property. LOL

It is easier for a deer to see you than it is for you to see it. It could be standing still in the thick brush down the hill, so always move slow and before you decide to stand up or sit down check the area around you. Fast movement will almost always catch the eye of a deer.

#1......... If you are more than 3 feet off the ground BUCKLE UP!!!!!!!. More than likely, there's someone waiting for you to come home. Also more than likely that person doesn't want to push you around in a wheelchair (if you're "lucky") for the rest of your life.

#2..... On the ground or 30 feet up a tree....make every move as if a deer were looking directly at you......sllllllllloooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwly. Just when you think nothing's around to catch you rubbing your nose and scratching your rear........you'll get busted.
