Re: Need help with some boots

400 is the max I'd use due to the ammount of walking. I have Danner 400's and wear them religiously. Just incase your feet get cold while your sitting at daylight or dark bring along some hot hands hand warmers to toss in your boot leg. Also Gaitors are a must. They help you stay warm and dry, they are cheap and a valuable tool many overlook.

Gaitors, Outdoor Research makes the best pairs I know of. Here's an example.

Also get some of the chemical toe warmers, just like the hand warmers Rifleman is talking about only they are meant to stick to the outside of your socks, just under your toes. Try them out before you go hunting to see if they are comfortable enough to walk with them in, in some of my boots they are great but not in all of them. When you are done hunting for the day makes sure you put your boots in a place where they can dry out overnight. I'm not talking about the outsides but the thinsulate liners.

Great minds think alike I guess. Those are the same gaitors I have used for a few seasons now. The link to the Schnees site is also good. I will recommend their pac boots to everyone. Best boots for hinting western big game. Lowa Sheep hunter boots are also getting rave reviews but I just won't quit Schnees.

Re: Need help with some boots

Well i went with some 400 grams 8" goretex (I get a real good deal thru Rocky and got their Pro Hunters) and after reading more up on the gaitors I ended up ordering the ones from cabelas Thanks for the advise on the gaitors the more I read the more I realized it would have been a mistake walking thru snow without them! Thanks again
