tallone
I was wondering if 400 gram insulate 8" tall goretex will be good enough for my elk hunt in November in Montana? I'll have good socks but I don't want to freeze my feet. I'm assuming we will be doing a lot of hiking so i would think they would stay somewhat warm? Any thoughts? rifleman25
Re: Need help with some boots 400 is the max I'd use due to the ammount of walking. I have Danner 400's and wear them religiously. Just incase your feet get cold while your sitting at daylight or dark bring along some hot hands hand warmers to toss in your boot leg. Also Gaitors are a must. They help you stay warm and dry, they are cheap and a valuable tool many overlook.
tallone
Re: Need help with some boots Gaitors? Are you taling about the things that goes around your neck? I was concerned because we hopefully will be walking in snow but I thought since all the walking 400 would be enough. I'm ordering my boots tomorrow. Guest Phaseolus (BeanMan)
Re: Need help with some boots Gaitors, Outdoor Research makes the best pairs I know of. Here's an example. http://www.schnees.com/catalog/hunting-gear/hunting-accessories/p_aaor-6150.html Also get some of the chemical toe warmers, just like the hand warmers Rifleman is talking about only they are meant to stick to the outside of your socks, just under your toes. Try them out before you go hunting to see if they are comfortable enough to walk with them in, in some of my boots they are great but not in all of them. When you are done hunting for the day makes sure you put your boots in a place where they can dry out overnight. I'm not talking about the outsides but the thinsulate liners. BeanMan [/ QUOTE ] Great minds think alike I guess. Those are the same gaitors I have used for a few seasons now. The link to the Schnees site is also good. I will recommend their pac boots to everyone. Best boots for hinting western big game. Lowa Sheep hunter boots are also getting rave reviews but I just won't quit Schnees. tallone
Re: Need help with some boots Thanks guys I'll be looking to get some. I've used the toe warmers before but in my other boots they wore a blister on my foot from bunching up when I walked. They worked fine while sitting on my stand.
