Shooting Sticks

I realize bow season is starting up and most aren't thinking of rifle just yet. Well I don't bow hunt anymore (trying to decide if I want to again). What I am asking is does anyone use the Shooting Sticks I see on the hunting shows. I am a ground sitter. Had an incident with a tree many years ago and am not real comfortable with getting in tree stands. I need something to help steady my shot at long distances. Are the shooting sticks just a bunch of hype or do they work?

Re: Shooting Sticks

oh no--they really work. I never hunt without mine. Even when I'm hunting out of my shooting house I take them with me in case I see a deer on the way to the stand or the way back. I've used mine for hog hunting, yote hunting, and deer hunting. Heck I even use them when turkey hunting.

Re: Shooting Sticks

Inever go anywere with the rifle without them! I make my own,I get some 1/2 inch dowling and cut them the right height so when I sit down they are perfect, when I first started to use them people laughed but when they seen I was constantly connecting on 300 yards coyotes they seen why, it makes all the difference in the world a steady shot,Plus they work for walkign sticks and also they cna be used to drag a coyote back to the truck just put a foot near the swivel point [a bolt so the sticks swivel!] Once you start with shootign sticks you will never go without!
