dogdoc
Shortly after being finished I planted the area to be flooded with jap millet about 4 weeks ago. The growth has been slow due to the dry weather but we are currently getting a good rain right now so hope it will get a good boost. I planted the edge of the project (about 1 1/2 acres) with winter wheat and oats in hopes of getting some geese to use the area:

StillLearnin
Re: my waterfowl project update.... I assume the pipe in the middle is for draining, but how do you fill it? Do you just pray for rain? By the way it looks great. I can't wait to build my own some day. Good Luck

In the future when I save up some more "fun" money I'll have a well dug.

dogdoc
Re: my waterfowl project update.... [ QUOTE ] Are you going to dig a pit or build a permanent above ground blind. [/ QUOTE ] For the first year I'll just use a temporary blind to see how the ducks and geese use the field and water. Then next year I'll build something permanent. What my plan next year is to plant a tall sorghum across the entire dam which will give me good cover to use as a blind. I'm planning on moving a few round bales of hay on the wheat section to use them as a blind. todd
