clayman
Every year my Dad, brother, four other guys and I go waterfowling in Southwest Manitoba. That's still on. Last week, my Dad says the weekend after we get home from Canada, he's going out to my cousin's in South Dakota to hunt pheasant. I'm welcome to go too. I get to looking at the calendar and realize that my kids are off for teacher's conventions the Thursday and Friday going into that weekend, so i get approval from the wife to take son #1 to South Dakota, and get approval from the employer to take Thursday and Friday off. Then I take a look at the South Dakota regulations to see if there's anything special I need to know since it's been several years since I've been out to hunt with my cousins, and I discover, the season opens on the Saturday of that weekend. I was really looking forward to taking my son out there without having to take him out of school, but I don't see that happening this year. And I'm certainly not going to run out there and spend $110 for a license only to be able to hunt from noon to sunset for two days and then race home so that the kid can get up for school on Monday morning. I'll have to find something else to do with him seeing as to how I've already arranged for the time off. I'm probably more disappointed than he will be, but still, what a bummer. Jeramie
Re: Drat! Take him fishing. You can never go wrong with a rod and reel. Ive never hunted pheasant but I love the meat. Im sure you were excited. Honestly if it were me id still be about half torn on the decision. Thats roughly what, 16-hours of hunting for $110. Not to bad IMHO. Unless youre hunting squirrel... but for pheasant, id pay it.
jbeck
Re: Drat! Most schools look at something like that as educational any way. Heck the boss here is taking his boy to Texas, I think sitting in a deer stand builds patience that teachers appreciate latter. LOL
hunterfisherman
Re: Drat! Check on some other seasons. Maybe they have a fall turkey season or a deer season you can get in on
clayman
Re: Drat! This thing is still evolving. Turns out that my boy has Monday off from school too, so I'm up to three days. You can only hunt from noon to sunset, and it's an eight hour drive. SoDak may still work out, but I'm leaning more towards staying in state here and taking him grouse hunting, or going duck hunting at my Dad's place provided the pond isn't froze over and there are still some ducks around.
