There is a possibility that you can no longer pic one as a favorite. Yep Ford and GM are talking merger.

Both Companies are reporting losses and making major cuts. According the local news the two Giants have been talking merger since July. If a deal is struck they will be one and the same.

Personally I'm a Ford guy but I think the 350 was the best Engine ever made followed by the 302.

Re: Hey GM guys.... Hey Ford guys....

I saw on tv one of the news programs the other night that american car workers average $60 and some change an hour.....is that possible?

I can't remember which company, but I'm sure it was just over $60/hour.

I work for Chrysler and the average line worker makes $26 an hour at top pay, skilled trades make more. With benefits it probably is $60 an hour. Our next contract we will probably be taking concessons.

That's most likely the cost per worker including benefits. Not necessarily the amount per hour that the worker takes home. That figure includes health plans and retirement plans that the company invests in above what the worker contributes.

The average taconite (iron) miner in northern Minnesota costs the companies $60-$70/hour, however, the workers pay only averages $18-$25/hour (ballpark depending on position and time with the company.)

Re: Hey GM guys.... Hey Ford guys....

I also work for Chrysler and the amount of income for a Union worker is calculated with the benefits included in their income. When I am not laid off like I am now I make a little over $28.00 an hour in regular income. Even if all of the workers were willing to take a pay cut we still could not compete with the evil of NAFTA. I have another name for it, but it cannot be presented here wink.gif.

F-series is probably the most popular truck in this area. I can almost guarantee you that wont happen. What I have heard is the may be cutting production mainly due to gas prices.

Over sized "trucks" aren't in serious demand right now. The bottom has fallen out of the market. In fact you can buy a New single cab F-150 for $12,500 in Tulsa. Granted thats the 5-speed basic package but several years ago I bought a used truck in that exact same model for $14,500 and it was a steal.

Gas has everyone turning to cheaper cars that average much better mileage.
