Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez is currently addressing the UN. He is calling our President the devil. He is saying that the world is waking up to our imperialistic nation. He is saying that America is a danger to the world.

AND that we need to have Bush analyzed by a psychologist!!!!! grin.gif

This guy is insane!!! He needs a big fat red X on his head. mad.gif

That goes to show you what the UN is all about!! It needs to be outlawed!!!

Have not had the news on yet this morning, but on fox news yesterday, there seemed to be some speculating about what this idiot and what the leader of Iran would have to say. No doubt they hate us. They were also speculating about the changes that will come for the UN after Kofi Annan gets out in a couple months.

Truly is amazing how some of these other countries and other people seem to view us.

Re: What an idiot!!!

If the rest of the UN supports this kind of crap they need to move the whole operation out of our country and fund it themselves. Why do we sit back and let them disrepect us and our leaders while they are doing so on our dime(s).

Also, why do we allow them free rein when they are here? If we have to let them attend the annual conference we don't have to let them come and go as they please. The Iran leader has called a press conference for Thursday and Chavez is being allowed to go to Harlem on Thursday to speak to the under-privileged. If we have to allow them to attend the conference they should be required to leave immediately thereafter - not tour our country and continue to speak their crap.

There comes a point when we have to say 'enough is enough" and stop trying to appease everyone. We send dollars and aid to every country in the world and most of them slap us with one hand while taking our money with the other.

And, this isn't about President Bush. They've been this way thru various administrations - they're just using President Bush as the bad guy because the media plays up the rift between liberals and conservatives - and our media plays throughout the world.

You might be right there. He sure soaked up all the attention he could get and made his pokes at our leader and at this country. Some of his remarks about getting nukes at all costs and the US is going to fall, really is something to watch out for with the non aligned members supporting him. Another thing with the UN that is pretty concerning is that from what I understand he is making a bid for Anan's position and he has support.

Pretty screwed up deal all the way around mad.gif.

Re: What an idiot!!!

On the upside, the Citgo on the corner has the cheapest gas on the street. Buying gas at Citgo really doesn't help Chavez out that much because gas comes from many differerent sources. If America boycotts Citgo, which won't happen, it will hurt the American economy more than it hurts Venezuela's. Think of all the American workers at Citgo refineries out of a job, not to mention the workers at the gas stations.

Glover according to Fox news has been a long time "activist" not sure what type of activist they are referring to.

Have to agree with Orlan here. The UN is a joke and needs to be ended, with all the corruption and problems that have been asssociated with the UN, it is just not fair to the American people to continue dumping money in. Taxpayers should not have to support this crap so these people who hate us because of our freedoms can come here and express themselves as if they have the same freedoms our citizens do.

Buying from them just because they undercut American companies is just selling one's soul to the man. And, it does help Chavez because he doesn't get his oil from different sources - he has his own oil to refine.

If Americans boycott Citgo, it will too help the American economy - we will be buying our gas from American companies rather than sending our dollars to Chavez's company. As an American I won't buy his gas and I wouldn't work for him even if it was the only job there was. As for all the people that do who would lose their job by a boycott - they can go to work for the gas stations and refineries who fill the void left by Citgo goin out of business.

And, I've begun going to/watching movies less and less over the last few years. I'll have to add Danny Glover to the list of movie stars I won't watch anymore.

We get less than 6% of our oil from Venezuela.

Re: What an idiot!!!

I’d like to explain why boycotts of large corporations don’t work, but it’s a little complicated.

To start with; CITGO Petroleum is the operating subsidiary of PDV America, itself a subsidiary of Venezuela's PDVSA.

Now if it isn’t too much trouble, Google PDV America, and drop over to its investments.

When you get to a list of investments, click on any one of them.

There are thousands and thousands of American companies that PDV America is deeply invested in.

You would have to crash the stock market completely to hurt PDV America, PDVSA, or Citgo.

Even then, who would be hurt the most?

They own stock in American paint companies, American drug manufacturers, aluminum production, retail outlets, plastics industry; car care products, hospitals and healthcare facilities, and you name it.

The only way you could possibly hurt Venezuela’s economy would be to completely stop them from investing in American companies.

Then, and only then, would they feel the impact.

Of course a lot of American companies would probably see their stocks devalued, but that would have to be the price of the American investor.

The Citgo boycott letter went out on the Internet several years ago and nothing has happened.

If you buy any gasoline products at all they still get a cut of the money because they hold ownership in too many of the pipelines that carry the fuel.

It’s a no win situation.

I was really going to post a list of the American companies that Citgo has their Venezuelan paws in, but the partial list was already at ten pages and I had barely started.

….popgun
