Re: shot a deer

[ QUOTE ]

Only 3" of penetration..you may have only gotten one lung. That deer may go for quite a while if that is the case...Best of luck finding her.

[/ QUOTE ]

One lung should still be spraying blood ... you need to zig zag the area and work a grid patterna nd find her .. you have to put every effort into finding the deer ... its the worste part of hunting but its the necesary part too...

Re: shot a deer

[ QUOTE ]

Is there any water near.....Deer alot of times will run to water when injured? If not you can use the buzzard tracking method tomorrow.

[/ QUOTE ]ya, I read an article in North American Whitetail magazine I think it was, and they had a teat done on what happens when a deer is shot. The deer will go into hypoglimemic (sp) shock, and if the hit wasn't too severe, the deer will run for water because it has an extreme thirst for water.

I would just keep looking, try the buzzard method like someone already has mentioned.

Re: shot a deer

[ QUOTE ]

3 inches of pennetration should have been in more than the shoulder.

[/ QUOTE ] Was there blood on the section of arrow that you recovered??? I had the same thing happen years ago where I unintentionally hit the shoulder bone square ..the deer tore off and on the way through some brush snapped the arrow off. I had 5" of shaft missing. I found blood for 30 - 50 yards then nothing. Never found the deer for 2 days of looking but a week later scoped the same deer with binocs looking no worse for wear. No limp or nothing which made me feel much better. From what we could figure the head stuck square into bone and was broken off in the brush but the head never penetrated the vital cavity. Not saying this is your situation just mine. Good Luck.
