I shot my 85 grain montecs today.....i shot them inside in a range, fly perfect but they made a noise, anyone else have this problem?? Mine made a hissing noise the entire way, i dont know if it was just the sound being amplified by the sheet metal siding and concrete floor or what, but it did make a sound....Any takers??? was using quickspin fletches, but switched to regular fletches and same noise.....

Re: G5 Montec Shooters....

I've been shooting 100 gr Montec G5's for 3 year now. I love them. I've filled my tags every year and never had a deer duck or flinch before impact.

As far as the sound goes, I'm half deaf anyways, so the wrong guy to ask about that. grin.gif

I think the deer and the filled tags tell the story though wink.gif

Re: G5 Montec Shooters....

I've shot them on video before. I can plainly hear the bow twang and the thwack with the broadhead connecting. I don't notice the BUZZ noise I've heard folks refer to.

Honestly, I'd be suspect the broadheads weren't square with the arrow if I heard that.

However, I would be real surprised if the animal reacted to the buzz and not the bowshot. By the time it hears the buzz it would be too late anyhow.

I got a good kudu with 100grn Montec a couple weeks ago. It's a good broadhead.

Re: G5 Montec Shooters....

Check the 'inside' edges of your broadheads. Not the sharp edges, but the edges that are inside the cutouts. On the older style montec heads those edges are flat. That flatness lends itself to a little bit of "air-turbulence" not enough to effect flight, but enough to create noise. The newer broadheads have a tapered edge on the inside which eliminate this. I've shot both types and never had a problem with either one with regards to arrow flight. The folks at G5 outdoors are aware of the noise, hence the change in the heads.

Re: G5 Montec Shooters....

I had a similar experience, and wsa told by my former pro shop to switch from feathers to vanes - son of a gun it did help...the vanes were 4" quick spins, and I think the increased rotation minimized the opporunity to generate the "buzz".

In an effort to minimize weight, I fletched up a few arrows with the Bohning Blazers (with 2 degree RH offset) and had no more "buzz" In order to improve the FOC, I moved from the 125 gr to the 100 gr and haven't looked back.

Just my 2 cents.

Re: G5 Montec Shooters....

ive never heard that on a Montec, but ive heard it on other broadheads with that same square underside ... maybe its just a design flaw wiht the square undersides ..... try the tapered bottoms like 7973 suggested
