OUTSIDER
I shot my 85 grain montecs today.....i shot them inside in a range, fly perfect but they made a noise, anyone else have this problem?? Mine made a hissing noise the entire way, i dont know if it was just the sound being amplified by the sheet metal siding and concrete floor or what, but it did make a sound....Any takers??? was using quickspin fletches, but switched to regular fletches and same noise..... unioncountyslayer
Re: G5 Montec Shooters.... I shoot 100 grain montecs, but never had this problem. My guess is that it is only because you were shooting them indoors. Try shooting them into a block outside and see if you still hear the noise, I'm guessing you won't. Nick
Re: G5 Montec Shooters.... Hmmm....I guess I've never really noticed any noise. But Im guessing by the time the arrow gets there, it wont matter anyways.
buckee
Re: G5 Montec Shooters.... I've been shooting 100 gr Montec G5's for 3 year now. I love them. I've filled my tags every year and never had a deer duck or flinch before impact. As far as the sound goes, I'm half deaf anyways, so the wrong guy to ask about that. I think the deer and the filled tags tell the story though
Leo
Re: G5 Montec Shooters.... I've shot them on video before. I can plainly hear the bow twang and the thwack with the broadhead connecting. I don't notice the BUZZ noise I've heard folks refer to. Honestly, I'd be suspect the broadheads weren't square with the arrow if I heard that. However, I would be real surprised if the animal reacted to the buzz and not the bowshot. By the time it hears the buzz it would be too late anyhow. I got a good kudu with 100grn Montec a couple weeks ago. It's a good broadhead. JJL
Re: G5 Montec Shooters.... Check the 'inside' edges of your broadheads. Not the sharp edges, but the edges that are inside the cutouts. On the older style montec heads those edges are flat. That flatness lends itself to a little bit of "air-turbulence" not enough to effect flight, but enough to create noise. The newer broadheads have a tapered edge on the inside which eliminate this. I've shot both types and never had a problem with either one with regards to arrow flight. The folks at G5 outdoors are aware of the noise, hence the change in the heads. gowest
Re: G5 Montec Shooters.... I had a similar experience, and wsa told by my former pro shop to switch from feathers to vanes - son of a gun it did help...the vanes were 4" quick spins, and I think the increased rotation minimized the opporunity to generate the "buzz". In an effort to minimize weight, I fletched up a few arrows with the Bohning Blazers (with 2 degree RH offset) and had no more "buzz" In order to improve the FOC, I moved from the 125 gr to the 100 gr and haven't looked back. Just my 2 cents. John

Strut10
Re: G5 Montec Shooters.... I've been shooting 100's for 4 years now. Can't say as I've heard the whistle. Maybe it's a velocity thing.......mine are around 265 fps and don't seem to make any undue noises.
AdvantageTimberLou
Re: G5 Montec Shooters.... with the practice head, the pre-season, I did hear a whizzing sound with it, I know what you are talking about and others have over at www.archerytalk.com. I figure by the time the hunting Montec gets there it will be too late!
NYBowhunter71
Re: G5 Montec Shooters.... I shoot the 100gr fixed blades, the only time I hear a whistle noise is when my fletchings are "roughed up" from close grouping during practice. I also shoot the 100gr practice heads, same result. Guest lovinbowhuntin247365
Re: G5 Montec Shooters.... ive never heard that on a Montec, but ive heard it on other broadheads with that same square underside ... maybe its just a design flaw wiht the square undersides ..... try the tapered bottoms like 7973 suggested
