LifeNRA
Sportsmen Aren't Laughing at New Cartoon Movie- (09/20) National A blockbuster hopeful that vilifies hunters has drawn the ire of American sportsmen. Open Season, a computer animated feature by Sony Pictures Animation, pits loveable woodland creatures against hunters. In the movie trailer, hunters are depicted as callous idiots rampaging through the woods. The animals unite to launch a no holds barred defensive against them. “Although this movie is probably meant to be tongue-in-cheek, it won’t be taken that way by millions of American outdoorsmen,” said Bud Pidgeon, USSA president. “The film portrays sportsmen as sloppy aggressors of wildlife, but ignores the fact that hunters are our nation’s number one conservationists and they are the reason that wildlife is flourishing.” Sportsmen can view the movie trailer at http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/openseason/. The picture is set to debut on Sept. 29 in the United States. Sportsmen can express their dissatisfaction by contacting local movie theatres. Take time to meet with theatre owners and explain why the movie’s anti-hunting sentiments are unacceptable.
BrotherBadger
Re: Sportsmen Aren\'t Laughing at New Cartoon Movie Hunters are almost always portrayed as fat, dumb guys who will shoot anything that moves(elmer Fudd syndrome). This is no different.
RangerClay
Re: Sportsmen Aren\'t Laughing at New Cartoon Movie I asked about this in the Lounge back in July. I could not run the trailer on dial-up so I asked everyone who could, what they thought. Everyone who answered my post said it was funny and looked like a great movie to watch. wtnhunt
Re: Sportsmen Aren\'t Laughing at New Cartoon Movie Have not watched the trailer either. Have seen ads on tv and it does look kind of funny. On a side note here, for anyone who has seen foxworthys new show that airs on cmt, one skit in particualr with sara evans, he pokes fun at hunters and protrays them in a similar manner. Foxworthy as we all know is also a hunter himself, kind of got to wonder if what he does is viewed the same as these cartoons????
horst
Re: Sportsmen Aren\'t Laughing at New Cartoon Movie [ QUOTE ] Cartoon Movie [/ QUOTE ] That pretty well sums it up right there, its a cartoon, nothing else.Cartoons in this country have been used to poke fun at almost every aspect of life, religion, minorities, politicians, even different races.Hunters seem to be the only ones that get irate at being portrayed in them in a humorous fashion.Ill take my kids to see it, they can distinguish reality from make believe quite well and I am not to worried its going to corrupt them later in life.Matter of fact most kids attention spans and the amount of cartoons they watch it probably wont be remembered by the day after they see it. It's viewed as funny, mainly because Foxworthy is well loved by many on here, and because he himself is a hunter. When you think about it though, the Willy and T-Bone characters aren't exactly flattering to hunters who don't like to be labeled as dumb rednecks who shine spotlights. There really isn't a difference in the humor between the two, just who is delivering it. All this talk about Foxworthy, I think I'm gonna go watch "The Incomplete Deer Hunter!!" slugshooter
Re: Sportsmen Aren\'t Laughing at New Cartoon Movie I actually thought the trailer was funny myself and would like to see it. It's animation folks, and while I have a soft spot in my heart for traditional Disney animation from years ago, I love the new digital animation and there hasn't been a digitally animated movie I've seen so far I haven't liked. Ice Age, The Incredibles, Toy Story, etc. etc.

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah sluggo, but what I was getting at is that we hunters are aware of this type of humor as being nothing more than that, and it does not make most of us think "hey this guy is potraying my way of life in a negative light" even though in reality to the non and anti hunters who really do not know any better, that is exactly what it is doing, just like is being pointed out about this and other cartoons. Wow that was one long run on sentence. Hope Chris doesnt make his way down here.
SaskMan
Re: Sportsmen Aren\'t Laughing at New Cartoon Movie Well I'm pretty sure that anyone who takes offence to it isn't someone I'd want to sit back and chat hunting with. I agree wholeheartedly with what Horst had to say..........as usual, and I for one will be watching it, for the humor and to poke fun at the knuckleheads who actually think that way about hunters. rifleman25
Re: Sportsmen Aren\'t Laughing at New Cartoon Movie I really don't see this movie affecting us as hunters. I plan to take my neices to it. They are both avide outdoore people and we will go and enjoy it I'm sure. There will always be an agenda but c'mon it's a cartoon for goodness sake. Any message from it will blow over in no time if the kids even understand what the message is.

Guest WhiskeyMan44
Re: Sportsmen Aren\'t Laughing at New Cartoon Movie Saw it this weekend with my girlfriend. Great movie. Laughed the entire time, as did my non-hunting girlfriend. Never brought up any anti-hunting feelings from her end.
