wtnhunt
Yesterday morning the wife hunted hoping to get another deer. I notice out the front window our cows looking at something down the hill. Then I see a truck coming up our drive and a couple kids bail out of the back and jump my fence and take off running towards my cows. Unsure of what is going on I tell my 8 year old to watch her sister a minute and I head out the door to see what is going on. As I get my coat and shoes on and am walking out the door the kids are getting back to the truck and then it starts backing down the dirve way and guess the man saw me and he stopped and then started heading up the drive to the house. Turns out the guy lost a beagle hound while he was rabbit hunting on my neighbor. The thing that gets me is when I ask him if the dog has a collar with a name on it he says yeah, but the dog is shy, it wont even come to him. Why on earth would someone turn a dog loose to hunt if they dont expect it to come back or to be able to catch it ? Just doesnt make any sense to me. shotupdeer
Re: no sense Reminds me of when I was little and my dad would take me down to South Georgia to go deer hunting with dogs. All of them were good about coming back except one. He'd disappear for 2 days, 3, one time he was gone for a week. Then one evening, you'd be rounding up the dogs and there he'd be, acting like nothing had happened. Did it for as long as he lived, never learned any better. whitetailkiller
Re: no sense the dog finaly made it's break from an abusive owner,,,,, i would keep it before i returned it!!!! the dog obviously doesn't like it's owner!!!!! jmo any dog that is treated fairly will at least listen to it's owner.... AdvantageTimberLou
Re: no sense sounds like the dog needs to go back to obedience school. My brother caught (2) beagles bowhunting years back, had tags on them and luckily we found the owner. Seems they like to run deer, not good!!! Ruin the hunt but they were good dogs, just needed to be better trained!! Lou

DSGB
Re: no sense That's the most widely used excuse for trespassing around here: "I'm lookin' fer ma dog." Unless I saw a dog, I'd be skeptical.
archerjg
Re: no sense He should have made sure that the dog would come back before taking it hunting. We have a friend who rabbit hunts a lot and his dogs will at least go back home if he can't find them. I hope that he finds the dog. I'd keep an eye out for that person trespassing as well. wtnhunt
Re: no sense Told him if we caught the dog I would call him. Usually after a couple of days of running the dogs that get lost back here get wore down and hungry and are usually not too hard for me or my wife to catch. My wife did hear a beagle hound beighing(sp) back in the bottom behind her while she was out hunting, but she never saw it. Thinking if we do catch this one it will go off to the pound or to a good home if we can find one for it.
