Chrud
So guys, if Auburn wins in their bowl game, think there'll be another co-champion deal again this year? I would rather see a play-off format. Top 8 teams compete in a single elimination playoff. The rest can have less prestigeous bowl games, like they do now. I wonder how much longer the BCS will be around. Kind of like the Chase for the Cup.
Chrud
Re: BCS Champion? If they are that good, shouldn't they be able to win in a playoff system? You know if Auburn wins their bowl game, there will be co-champions, just like last year. There is the possibility that the BCS hasn't given a clear cut champion the last two years. Sure, it's fine when two teams are above the rest, but Auburn is real close to them. I see your point though also. Utah doesn't belong the the national championship, even though they are undeafeated. Their schedule isn't anything like the Big 12, PAC 10 or Big 10.
dogdoc
Re: BCS Champion? No split champion this year--the Coaches agreed to go with the BCS standings at the end of the year. I would be all for a playoff system. And IMHO if you don't play a conference title game you don't get to play for the National Championship! todd
Chrud
Re: BCS Champion? Hey! I would love to see the Big 10 go to a confrence title game. I don't get to see the Badgers play too often, because of bowhunting. But, I always watch the confrence title games that were on this past weekend. They are always high intense. DSGB
Re: BCS Champion? I don't understand how Auburn can go undefeated in the SEC and still not play in the National Championship game. The SEC has 5 teams in the top 25 (BCS). The only other conference with 5 teams or more in the top 25 is the Pac-10 with 5 also. Auburn beat four teams that were in the top 10 when they played them. I think the other two teams are just as deserving though. What do you do? I know if it was Georgia in Auburn's position, I'd be pissed! Same thing happened last year, and who got the shoulder, the SEC. Pac-10: 2 top 10 teams, 3 top 25 SEC: 2 top 10 teams, 5 top 25 Big 12: 2 top 10 teams, 5 top 25 Big 10: 0 top 10 teams, 4 top 25 ACC: 1 top 10 team, 4 top 25 Looks to me, based on conference strength, it should be Oklahoma vs. Auburn. It was the non-conference games that hurt Auburn.
dogdoc
Re: BCS Champion? DSGB---I agree. Olahoma State opened the season in the Rose Bowl and absolutely killed UCLA and USC just squeaked by them---of course that is a rival game---which can make a difference. Auburn is getting the shaft but what hurt them is their pre-season ranking---I think they opened the season ranked like 19th. I will agree the SEC had the toughest conference in my opinion. We'll see how it turns out. todd

dogdoc
Re: BCS Champion? boomer i agree the BCS is better than what we had before but a national champion is determined by a voter--sports writers that are biased to their location. The only way to determine a true N.C. is thru a playoff system. Yes, there are years when you only have one undefeated team that wins the N.C. and everythings ok. Look at Basketball---March Madness is 100X more exciting then all these boring bowl games---when there is only ONE bowl game that means anything! Who won the cotton bowl 5 years ago???? Who won the Independence Bowl last year????? We need a playoff--I'm not smart enough to figure out how to do it---but i know there is a way. todd
The_Kat
Re: BCS Champion? It's college level play, and not Professional. They can go to the big leagues for their big pay-offs. Will it happen...no. Play-offs bring out the best and worst in teams. I believe play-offs are needed. The way it is now, theres no such thing as an upset. I mean look at some games played this year. OSU stayed with OU neck and neck, and beat UCLA hands down, while USC struggled with them. So whose to say OSU wouldn't beat USC in a play-off game? It works in college basketball.......why can't it work in college football? Theres no such thing as a co-champion........theres only ONE TRUE champion. muggs
Re: BCS Champion? With all the pressure on the BCS this year, I think a change is coming in the near future. Yeah teams will lose money, and they'll fight it. Buth think of all those "minor conference" teams that never have a shot at a BCS game. They out number the few that actually have a shot at hitting the jackpot. Imagine the level of interest a playoff systme would create. Much higher ratings for sure. More ratings=more money. That money can be distributed among the teams.. Makes sense to me, I haven't watch a bowl game that didn't involve the Buckeyes ever. I'd watch every tournament game, think of the upsets, it would be awesome.
Guest andymansavage
Re: BCS Champion? There will be no major changes to the BCS until at least 2010 when the current contract expires. The whole Idea is garbage. Why is it that every other division of college football can have successfull playoffs? The money would still be there, maybe more. This is the only sport where you can beat every team you play and never have a shot at a title. You've got to love a league where the exhibition games are at the end of the season.............
