Guest LDB
Re: Team 1 Where were you guys at 10:40 am yesterday morning? I know where I was. I was 24 yards from a mature large-antlered mule deer buck that didn't have the foggiest notion that I had snuck up on him. You might ask, "LDB, under such intense circumstances how were you able to ascertain precisely what time it was?" Well sir, I had a memory aid. My $#&*@#& watch alarm went off. The buck wasn't spooked right away, and actually moved in for a closer look. However, the pea-sized portion of his brain that isn't devoted to feeding, fighting, or sex told him that something just wasn't quite right about the 192 lb bush holding a compound bow sitting on the ground 15 yards away from him. I caught up with him again later, but this time a doe snorted downwind of me, causing the curious buck to crest a ridge 15 yards away from me. This time he wasn't convinced that the 192 lb rock holding a compound bow was harmless. This is the only photo that I took that turned out (you can see his antlers above the bush). The other photos ended up being great close-ups of blades of grass and bushes with ghostly deer images in the faded background. I had forgotten about auto-focus. LDB's pro-tip of the week: Turn off anything that might beep during your final stalk when bowhunting open-country deer.

MUDRUNNER
Re: Team 1 Man,that's a bummer LDB. How was everyone elses weekend? I hunted Sunday morning till 10.I had 4 little bucks hang around for about 45 minutes.A little forky came in the shooting lane at 12 yards, and a little 6 actually was directly under my stand.I also seen 6 does, but they stayed on a trail that was about 50 yards away.It was a great morning, and it was enough to get the heart pumping and get the shakes. It looks like I hung that stand in a good spot,so it's just a matter of time before I connect. It's going to be pretty warm the rest of the week, but hopefully it cools off a little by next weekend, and something a little bigger strolls by the stand. Guest tyshe17
Re: Team 1 Had a great Friday morning hunt. Hunting a hang on I killed from last year with a bow. Saw 13, 10 inside of 50 yards, and saw too little bucks fight. I had deer in range, but never a good shot. I saw one that was a decent 8, and watched deer almost constantly till about 10:30. Saturday got set (set meaning sitting down after walking in, taking the climber up and getting everthing set up) 30 min before daylight. At shooting light the landowners old boss and his son come walking in. He puts his son up in a treestand 30yds behind me that I didnt know was there. Kid was wearing jeans, white tennis shoes, no glove, no mask, and in an 8 ft ladderstand in a bottom (I was about 30 feet up). Anyways with all the disruption I didnt think I would see anything but didnt want to mess everyone else up(the dad an my little bro were up the hill). 7:45 spot 2 does heading down the point right to the kid. I watch him twist and move, them get nervous and spook all in about 2 min. ohh well, maybe in two weekends it will all fall together. Good Luck everyone, and be careful. Mach1
Re: Team 1 Went out yesterday morning for opening day and had a doe and fawn with spots come within 25 yards but no shot was offered. Sunday evening and this morning (Mon.) went out with no sightings. My brother was out Sunday morning as saw some does and fawns with spots as well. It wasn't that great, but it was good to get out in the woods again. I'll be back home Friday through Sunday to hunt again and my brother and I are going to take turns filming each other, so hopefully we'll have some action around us. IowaDeerHunter
Re: Team 1 Just got back from my timber yesterday and the only crops (corn and beans) harvested in a 7 mile radius at least (if not ten) is some cut silage on our land. And it was a little to warm and buggy to hunt. So looks like I wont be getting out for another weekend or two.

MUDRUNNER
Re: Team 1 Yep,it's supposed to be 95 degrees here today. Our racing season ended last weekend,Didn't get to go as much as I wanted to this year, and I missed Eldora this year too. It doesn't look like I'm going out this weekend, have a birthday party Saturday,a family reunion Sunday, and my wife is being induced on Monday,so I've got some work to do to get the babies room ready. Guest LDB
Re: Team 1 Hope things went well for you Mudrunner. Congrats. You folks will get really mad at me if you saw some of the deer I passed up in the past 3 days, but I'm still holding out for a huge buck (not just a good buck). I had the drop on a huge muley buck on Tuesday; however, the ridge was too steep. I had come over the top of the ridge and was 10 yards away from him, but all I could see was the tips of his antlers as he moved around the ridge below me. He went down into the coulee and stopped on the other side. I ranged him at 174 yards - about 50 yards further than I'm comfortable with for my muzzleloader so I left him for another day. He has a huge body and his antlers would score in the 180-190 range, so I'm hoping to meet up with him again. I've seen the Watch Alarm buck a couple more times. Yesterday I got careless on a stalk and spooked him too soon. I passed on a 75 yard running broadside shot in the silver willows - too iffy of a shot for me with a muzzleloader. I still have Friday and Saturday this week and all of next week to catch up with a huge buck. Good luck everyone.
Guest Finn
Re: Team 1 LDB, I'm not worried about what you're passing up...I'm sure you'll haul one out that'll make us all jealous. I just booked my flights for our late season trip to Wisconsin. The boy and I will be there the 16th - 28th. May not get points early, but we'll get some then for sure. Mudrunner, hope all goes well with your family.
tp793
Re: Team 1 well LDB if they aren't mad at you then they might be mad at me. Yesterday afternoon I hobbled my injured self into the stand but didnt get there till late, around 5:10. It was really windy and some scattered sprinkle showers, so I figured the deer movement would be slow and it was for about an hour and and a half. About 6:30 I caught movement about 60-70 yards off to my left out on a power line and saw three or four deer milling around, one decided to take a step in the woods about fifteen yards which I later range found out 55.5 yards, she disappeared after a few minutes back out with the other ones, so I decided to put on a little stalk. I get about 2 steps down my stand and here come three does out of nowhere making a beeline for the path in front of me. So i hobble back up into my stand and wait. The lead doe comes across at 27.5 yards, and I let one fly, THWACK, good, solid contact. So I go down after letting the other 2 does finally figure out something wasn't quite right, and start looking for an arrow or blood. Heres where it gets tricky. Nothing!! No arrow to be found, no blood where she was, nothing at all. So I call the other two hunters im with and they show up and cant find anything for half an hour so we're starting to think maybe a miss? Finally, the words that are like music to the ears.."I've got blood here!!" thirty yards away he finds blood, which led to a 300yrd middle of the night track job with little spots of blood, then leading into puddles. Finally we kicked her up twice within a hundred yards so we let her lay for the night. Dad goes out this morning and finds her 40 yards from where we stopped tracking last night. So he dresses it tags it and checks it in, then takes it to the butcher, all while I'm at school . So no pictures or any points for us...sorry guys, i feel really bad about not getting this into the contest, but I hope that since its still so early things will keep going good and I can hopefully get some more points on the board!! Good luck everyone..!
