Re: Team 1

Awesome buck Todd, congrats!

I went out to check the apples by my rifle stand and I don't think I've ever seen tracks like that. Big, small, from all directions! I sure hope they aren't coming at night. smirk.gif Even my other stands have a ton of tracks around them. Hopefully I'll get some gun points this weekend. cool.gif

Re: Team 1

Well, just got back from deer camp yesterday afternoon. It was a long 4 days.

I bowhunted Thursday, and finally saw some shooter bucks.I saw 4 different bucks that were shooters, but only a small 4 point came into bow range. The bucks were chasing hard and it was a great day, even though though wind was blowing 30+ mph.

Friday morning-nothing,saw two does and never got a shot. Finally, that afternoon I shot a nice fat doe with my slugger.I have pictures on a disposable camera that I'll get put on a c.d. after I use all the pics up, and get my tag and deer pics posted. My area totally died for some reason.I never saw a buck the rest of the weekend. Two guys in our group did manage to bag some bucks that should score in the mid 130's.

Re: Team 1

Well opening morning of gun season I missed a 10pt that would 've probably scored around 160". I was a little sick after that. No other good opportunities besides that for me during the three days as I was trying to get my wife a shot since it was her first year hunting.

My dad was able to take this guy Sunday morning. He walked up on him bedded in a thick honeysuckle patch and shot him at 25 yards when he stood up.

Great buck - lots of character in that rack, and congrats to your dad on a successful stalk. Looks like your dad's not afraid to get his hands dirty either grin.gif.

He gets messier than anyone I know when it comes to field dressing a deer. My brother field dressed a deer the day before and his hands were barely even covered with blood. I had to kid my dad about it because it was too easy. grin.gif

Re: Team 1

Well..... any body did any hunting lately. seen anything....... good/bad outings.

THe MO gun season is over so every deer in the state is scared to death. Well most are at least. I have been out a few times seen a few small bucks and does but nothing worth shooting yet.

I still have a doe tag for my firearm. Which I hope to fill during the anterless only season in Dec. I shouldnt have a problem but we shall see when that season gets here!.

Good luck to you guys.!!

Re: Team 1

Went out yesterday afternoon, but no shots.I grunted in the same little 5 pointer I've been seeing all season, and saw 8 does,so it ended up being a pretty good night considering how warm it was.

I'm taking off work this Thursday and Friday for our shotgun season,so hopefully I'll see a nice buck.It looks like the weather is going to really change by Thursday, and highs for the whole weekend are supposed to be on into the low 30's.

Re: Team 1

I made up for the lack of photo of the muley buck earlier this year. I shot this whitetail on Saturday. It's a long story, but it ended with watching him lose a fight to a smaller-antlered buck and shooting him while he was being run off by the other buck at about 100-150 yards.

CLB and I had severely underestimated his antler size. I had thought he would be 150 or so when I first saw him, CLB talked me down into thinking 140 or so. CLB didn't want to shoot him (until he got see him on the ground - then he was kicking himself in the hind). Either way, he looked like a mature buck to me so I made up my mind to shoot him once I got a good opportunity. He ends up grossing 169 2/8 with 12 scorable points, 1 probably scorable point, and 2 points that I'm not sure where the baseline for the measurement would be. I'm going to enter him at our local Wildlife Federation club scoring day, so I'll see how many points an official scorer comes up with.

Yes, it was cold (windchills of -30C, -22F). The hunt wasn't over with this buck. As I was tagging him, CLB shouted "Holy @#$%, Pigs!". I looked up and saw a group of wild boars (sows) moving about 150 yards away. CLB shot the lead one and I shot the rear one. We made poor initial shots, but after some bloodtrailing and a few more shots, and a tense moment when one of the wounded pigs charged CLB (which we can laugh about now), we had 2 wild pigs to load up in addition to the buck. It was a bit of a circus with the pigs, but it was likely the most exciting day of hunting I've ever had.

Re: Team 1

Mudrunner,

The wild hogs running around up here are ones that have escaped from farms or hunt farms - they are not native to the area. They are a nuisance and can do a lot of damage to crops and pastures (besides being dangerous animals), so it's open season on any wild hogs running at large. There's a few areas of the province where there are small populations of wild hogs running at large. They are hard to get rid of since they have no natural predators and breed like crazy. In the area we were hunting, the report is that a feral herd of about 30 was sighted a couple of months ago a few miles away from where we shot these.
