[/ QUOTE ]that's cool, I'll be out in PA for the rifle season too! But first is bowseason here in Ohio. Opening day was today, but it was raining and windy, so I won't be going out today. O well, the weather looks good for next week. grin.gif

Re: Team 2

I haven't went out yet. It rained Saturday morning and I've haven't had time to go out this weekend, BUT, I will be out there tomorrow night. I'm real pumped to go.

Also, Moon, I will be hunting in 4A for the PA rifle season. I almost went to a different place in 2G, which had a place that was about 20,000 acres! But being that I have a doe tag for 4A, I'm going to hunt there instead. Good luck to everyone!

Re: Team 2

well guys, I went out for the first time tonight. The weather had been real nasty today but about 4 pm it cleared up to blue skies. I was glad and so i went out. Around 7 or so, I had 2 yearlings and a big doe come down a trail about 15 yards from my stand. I let them walk. I did grunt to them and got them to circle around and go into the alfalfa field I was hunting over. Later, I had about 20 minutes until quiting time, and I had about 8 deer out in the field. I grunt some more and got them to move right to me. (Now my goal this year was to wait out on a buck) but I descided if a doe came in close enough, I'd give her a wack. They came in right under my stand, and I'm like "this can't be happening!" One came in at 5 yards and I came to full draw. I had to wait about a minute until she made that last step forward. I released and she ran. Later I got down and examined the arrow, which was covered in blood. Long story short, I called my friend and him and I tracked her for a couple hours. The blood trail wasn't very long, and we're guessing the shot was far and back. I must have pulled on the shot. I feel real bad cuz I hate to waste a deer like that. But I'll be out tomorrow and try and find her. Hopefully it doesn't rain.

Re: Team 2

I hope Brad and Jon find their wounded deer! Sorry to hear that guys! It happens to the best of us, though. Give it your best shot to find the deer and don't let it get you down if you can't find them, or if you do find them, but cannot use the meat. Other animals will feed off your kill instead.

Remember if you do get your deer, and it's a buck, any points that may hesitate to look 1" on film make sure you also take a picture of a measuring tape next to the tine showing it's over 1". Also don't forget a picture of you and the deer, before caping it, and a tag with date and name visible or signed paper with the same. Any pictures that anyone does get of their deer that they need hosted I will host for free in my photobucket, or I can even make your entry post for you if you're confused on how to get the pictures into a post. Good luck with your seasons guys! I'm still impatiently waiting for mine to come in. lol grin.gif

Re: Team 2

well, I went out again tonight. The doe I shot was a no show, but I'm thinking she isn't dead yet. The shot was most likely a stomach shot, and there wasn't much blood, so it probably cloted real quick after the shot. I'm still disapointed, but I look at the situation that I can still be out hunting. Tonight I saw a button buck, who came in and fed about 15 yards from the stand. He was fun to watch.

Re: Team 2

went out last night (Thursday night) and got into a stand I haven't hunted at all yet. It's a tree line that jolts out of a woods and there's a lot of bedding area. So I get in there kinda late, get set up. Around 7 oclock, I look up and see this deer feeding about 20 yards away. and it's a buck! I get my bow ready. He turns and walks into some brush and I couldn't see him for a little bit. Then he comes back out, and decides to walk right down the grassy strip that leads right by my stand. He comes in without hestitation, he had no idea I was there. I come to full draw, he walks right infront of me, and then stops at 6 yards from me. I release and he runs into the brush. Later I get some of my friends around to help track, and we tracked till almost 1 last night! There was a descent amount of blood and we ended up tracking him for over a quarter of a mile! He ended up doubling back and diving into a pond. That's where we lost him. We looked and looked and couldn't fiqure out what happened. We waded out in the water and couldn't find him or anymore sign. The trail stopped right there. We left and it was a sleepless night and I had to get up for work at 6 that next morning. Today I went back to where we left off last night, and just as I'm driving by the pond I saw antlers sticking out of the water! There he was, about 20 feet off the bank. I got my waders and everything around and went in and dragged him out. Weighed about 140-150 field dressed. He's an 8 pointer, almost a 9. He's only a year and a half old too. He's got good genes. I'll be posting pics here of him soon. Also, special thanks to my buddies who did an excellent job of tracking this deer.

Re: Team 2

Congratulations ODH! Glad you found him. One my hunting partner's bucks did that once jumped in the water after being shot, except this was a strong river and it took them forever to find where the current took him and then to get him out. Looking forward to the pictures. Way to go teammate!

Yeah it has been raining like crazy here where I live also. Hopefully it isn't raining next weekend with the opener of Squirrel season. I want to just get out in the woods, even if it's just after the tree rats. Next year hopefully I'll have a new bow and can try archery deer hunting. This waiting for rifle season is driving me nuts. lol This year sadly couldn't pull the funds and time to get into archery hunting, so have to wait for rifle to roll around. I hope the weather lets up for a bit though so you can enjoy some hunting. Good luck!
