ilhnter
Re: Team 6 I hunt in Illinois and bow season starts Oct 1 and runs until mid January. I will also gun hunt in Illinois as well. I will gun hunt in Missouri as well. We've seen many good bucks on the Illinois property, so hopefully I can put a tag on one. mrswtnhunt
Re: Team 6 [ QUOTE ] I hunt mostly bow, but gun too if needed. Bow season runs from this saturday, to Nov. 11th. If I don't get a buck in bow, I'll go for rifle the monday after thanksgiving then the two weeks following. If I still don't get one, I'll be out for the two-week archery season following Christmas day. Ouch...COLD! But I've got a nice 8 point in this two-week period a few years back -- so I still give it a whirl if needed every year. I like snortweezers too... if it hasn't been used in the past. "Poke 'em & Smoke 'em" is also cool with me. Dominant predators...ehh... sounds like we're copying the scent-lok commmercials... (no offense mrswtn!) [/ QUOTE ] none taken...lol
Buckslayer
Re: Team 6 rhine... we definitely don't underestimate you. I've been hunting since I was 12. When I was 13 I shot a 10 point. When I was 15 I shot a 7 point. 16 years... and 8 point... Last year, at 22 years old, I shot another 10 point... and the year before that, another 8 point... Sooooo... my point is good hunters are born, not made!!! You got game, I'm sure of that -- and we're all putting on the same game face as you! Go get'em team 6. Buckslayer
Re: Team 6 Along the lines of my "good hunters are born not made"... I need to specify before creating an arguement... Good hunters are born with the love of the sport, which causes them to grow into great hunters... you can't learn how to love hunting - you just feel something amazing from the first time you do it - or you don't - if you do feel it you know its your sport forever! Buckslayer
Re: Team 6 Saw a 4 point and a 7 point, and a doe yesterday. I am waiting for something bigger. I am hunting in either 4 or 3 points per side antler restrictions. This week I'll get out a few times, then all weekend up in Elk county, PA. Gus
Re: Team 6 Was a bust for me this weekend. Didn't get to go Saturday morning, but went that afternoon and then went again Sunday morning and afternoon. Never even seen the first deer. The wind was blowing pretty good, so I am thinking that is why the deer were not moving, but it did calm down the last hour or so of the day. Sure will be glad when some cooler weather gets here and the deer will start moving about during the day instead of at night.

ilhnter
Re: Team 6 snortweezers works for me Well got out for the first time this evening. Saw four does and got a shot at the fourth. she was about 20yds right in front of me and it was about 6:30. I put my pin on her and released.... she didn't really react and i didn't see my arrow hit. She ran maybe 10yds and stopped to look around. She then bounded up through the woods and out of sight. I climbed down and found my arrow covered in blood. I climbed back up my tree to retrieve all my stuff, then followed the blood for maybe 25yds, then backed out and waited for my dad. We then looked for her, but found very little blood. The blood trail went maybe 75 yd if that and just stopped, we couldn't find another drop. Then we just looked around the field edge where the blood stopped and couldn't find her. I must have just clipped her or something. Just makes me sick when this happens, even though i know it happens to all of us at some point. When this happened to me three years ago, I searched 400 yards from the spot of last blood the next morning and evening. Me and a few friends walked in a pattern, strategically searching and marking off areas with toilet paper once they were searched. I don't know for sure what happened to her, but I put forth the most effort I could, and gave it my darndest. You owe it to the deer to do the same. Maybe you'll find her if you use that method?? Either way, try not to let it get you down too much.
