Re: Team 7

ok, my name is Scott and I only hunt in Ohio. I will be hunting opening night this Saturday in a brand new piece of land that is about 100 acres that has not been hunted in years and is surrounded by land that is also not hunted. We have done some light scouting to not pressure the area to much and are all very excited to get in and hunt. I also just bought a house that has 13 huntable acres that i own and is connected to about 150 acres of woods. As far as i know it is me and 1 other guy that hunt that piece. I am getting more picky in my older age and am shooting for a 140 class or bust. I will at least get a doe for our team though.

good luck to all and freezer fillers is just fine.

Re: Team 7

My name is Kevin. I live and hunt in Oklahoma. I normally only bowhunt but have been known to pick up the smokepole a few times. In fact, purchased a new CVA Optima Pro 50 cal this year, so I'll probably take it out.

Oklahoma's bow season runs from Oct. 1st to Jan 15th. Usually, the first legal deer that walks by during bow season goes down. Hopefully its a big doe and then I can hold out for a nice buck.

I'll also be traveling to James Collins this year along with a few other forum members to hunt a Bowhunting only WMA. Got lucky at the last bow camp at James Collins last year and shot a 9 pointer.

I hope to contribute to the "winning" total!grin.gif

[ QUOTE ]

In the last 2 years, my bucks were worth 27 and 18 points

Saskman, I noticed a downward trend - could this mean your buck this year will only be worth 9 points? Maybe you'll be the first guy ever to shoot a Boone & Crockett 2x2 grin.gif.

Re: Team 7

davegp, i also hunt in ohio. You should check into mead paper land. They have a lot near cincinnatti, probably only 45 minutes to 1 hour drive. That is where i go for the first couple of days of gun season. It is also where i shot my two biggest bucks of my life. a 135" 8pt and a 140" 11pt.

i will be out this evening but weather ,ay make it a short hunt, supposed to thunderstorm.

Re: Team 7

I'm out of town with family this weekend, unfortunately won't get to hunt until later in October (mabye smokepole season by the time I do).

I mainly hunt on family land in SE OK. Hunted a little bit last year in NE OK (Creek Co.), too, seeing a nice buck and several does but no shot. I took a couple of small bucks last year; hope to get a nice one this fall.

BTW, I'm an addicted turkey hunter (see my spring turkey contest report here) and will be doing a little gobbler chasing this fall, too, if my venison freezer filling mission permits. wink.gif

Re: Team 7

actually remington a doc where i work gave me permission to hunt 70 acres that borders some mead land. and today i met one of the anti's that lives next door to one place we hunt, i checked out his land once and it had more deer beds than i could count on both hands, but i cant take my shoes off to keep counting when in the woods. well he didnt seem so anti, i told him who i was and i hunted on his neighbors farm and he actually warmed up to me and gave me his business card,,, this is going to be a long long process to try to get on,,,very delicate. every time we see deer over there they stand up and stare but dont run, land has never been hunted.

Re: Team 7

Well first time out and NADA. When I left the house at 6:15 it said it was 60+ degrees out. By the time I was settled in my treestand at 6:40, it felt like 80..grin.gif

I hunted the edge of a clearcut today where I've got a couple of small foodplots and a mineral lick. Didn't see anything.

Before I got down, I shot an arrow at 20 and one at 45. Both were dead on the money. While picking up the arrows, I saw tons of tracks. Both deer and hogs.

My mineral lick is getting hit pretty regular. It's about 80 yards from my stand and should get more action as the temps get lower and day traffic picks up.
