Guest DaveGP
Re: Stuck my 1st buck had 6 does come in this morning, hoping there would have been a buck somewhere behind them but NO. the only other thing i saw was the neighbors dog on the property i hunt on, she hates hunters and im sure she let him go on purpose. one day she is going to have to go to the pound to get her dog back if he keeps showin up! MCH
Re: Stuck my 1st buck Well guys, I shot a spike this morning. As soon as I can get the pics uploaded I'll post em. I'll definitely upgrade it, but at least its points on the board. I had made up my mind not to shoot young deer. I even passed up a small 6 yesterday. But this morning, this little spike walked into the wrong shooting lane at the wrong time. Long story short, I had a nice P&Y 10 or 12 point with huge mass and dark chocolate horns within 15 yards and couldn't close the deal. It was the first time that I was so mad while in the stand that I had tears in my eyes. Anyway, about 20 minutes after the episode with the monster whitetail, the small spike made its way towards my stand and I let her fly. To top the morning off, a doe walked by at 20 yards just 30 minutes after shooting the spike. All in all, I had a very good day in the woods. Even though I didn't get the big 'un, this will be a hunt I will remember for a lifetime. A P&Y on public land in Oklahoma is not something you see everyday. elnor
Re: Stuck my 1st buck Congrats, MCH. Now it's time to get the big one, right? Don't get mad, get even. On my way down to Norman for the football game yesterday, I saw a *huge* 10 point on the private land side of the I-44 interstate fence. I couldn't believe how big bodied the deer was...until he raised his head from eating and I saw his rack! Wow! I've seen some decent deer but I think he's the biggest one I've ever seen on-the-hoof. My wife (also a hunter) and I were in shock. We were worried someone would have hit him crossing the highway, but didn't see any evidence of it driving home today. If only we could figure out a way to find the landowner and get after that ole boy. Unfortunately there weren't any nearby exists from the interstate and we don't no where to start(?). Oh well, either way we've got bucks we're going after this coming weekend in SE OK. Can't wait to get in the woods.
Guest DaveGP
Re: Stuck my 1st buck ahhh, i forgot to say i saw a new stand on the neighbors property only a hundred yarts away from the fence...dont care though i hunt in the far corner away like 400 yards away. but tonight my aunt and uncle drove around the area and saw three nice bucks feeding on the side of the road around dark! cant wait til next weekend! MCH
Re: Stuck my 1st buck Thanks guys. I can take one more buck with my bow so it'll be 8 or better. But I can take 3 more deer total with my bow. And then if I wanted to, I could take two more deer(1 buck & 1 doe) with my ML or rifle. I know for sure I can still harvest two more bucks, so barring major catastrophe(), I should be able to upgrade the spike, but at least I'm not getting skunked this year. Elnor: SE Oklahoma is my neck of the woods. What area you hunting?
MCH
Just got him entered. Well here's my entry. Not too big of a rack, but he did sport a 110 field dressed weight, which ain't bad for this area where a nice buck will average around 135 or so. Guest DaveGP
Re: Just got him entered. hey mch do you stuff deer in the back of that jeep? i keep thinking about buying one, we used to have one and i loved it but im unsure about hauling deer in one. i am considering the new four door one also. MCH
Re: Just got him entered. This was the first deer that I've killed since I bought the Jeep. I lifted up the carpet and folded the back seat up and he fit in there easily. I'm not 100%, but I think I could've fit the big buck in there as well. I know I might have problems with it if the deer are stiff, but the spike was an easy fit. My only gripe about the jeep is that its not a two person hunting vehicle. I have enough room for my Summit treestand and my bow and I can move the treestand up to the front if I kill something, but as far as carrying someone else with me.....It ain't possible. I'm thinking about buying a tray attachment for the back so I can attach my stands or the deer if needed.
Guest DaveGP
Re: Just got him entered. thats what i was thinking was a tray for the stands, or roll the seat forward and put the gear in that way,or a safari rack would be pretty neat! Guest DaveGP
Re: Just got him entered. good news, the land i hunt which i talk about all the time is 30 acres but cows roam almost 17 to 20 of it so i really only hunt on about ten, the neighbor down the street owns 17 that is surrounded by 100 acres on one side and houses on the other, this is all urban hunting, lots and lots of deer everywhere when you drive through at night, well some guy just walked into work and i told him i hunted around where he lives, he said he has 7 acres and wishes someone would come shoot some deer, he even has it so bad he tegs tags for year round, he took my name and number and said he sees deer on his ridge every day, atleast 8 deer! hopefully this will be my third spot to hunt in the same area, all small but this one would not have any other hunters, both of the other two have another guy on them, and i hunt with my uncle, tight quarters, but i thank the lord that he has given me someone to hunt at all! Muff
Re: Just got him entered. Last night sit was great....we did not score but man oh man the big boys were out and chasing......in all my buddy and I saw 4 different 10 pointers and 1 HUGE 8 pointer that would score way bigger than the 10 pointers....I had a HUGE bodied 10 pointer coming right at me untill he got on a doe....he was 100 yards out and I was shaking like a leaf.....this deer was an easy 140-150 class and I would put him about 220lbs.....What a night....hope I can get a shot at one of those big boys some time this weekend.
