Re: 9 - Bucks Gone Wild

November 11 was a sad day for me this year. I shot my Avatar buck and was unable to recover him. He is a little bigger this year than he is in my avatar picture from last year. I as well as my buddy who is an official Illinois Big Buck scorer have estimated the deer at about 180".

I looked for a total of 25hrs over three days and was never able to recover him. Talk about feeling sick. Shooting and not recovering a Booner is about the worst feeling I've ever had as far as deer hunting goes.

So I let 10pts slip away from the team. Sorry guys. I'll try and make up for it in the second half of the season.

The only decent buck I saw this past weekend during gun season was a 130" 10 pointer. Definitely a nice deer but not a shooter. Everything else was either young bucks or does and fawns.

Only good news is that I don't think the season can get any worse. Hopefully it'll only get better from here on out.

I wish my buddy were on our team this year as he shot a 19-pointer the same day I shot mine. Gross score 228", net 212." It was an absolute hog.

Good luck to everyone over the long holiday weekend.

Guess it was a good thing. From the looks of all the snow you got.

No kidding. My old 2 wheel-drive truck doesn't go far in this stuff.

I feel bad for my buddy Ken though, because he can't go stalking deer like the rest of us can, and this snow makes hunting Blacktails a still-hunt and stalk only proposition.

Short and sweet. Me and my buddy did a two man drive down a creek bottom. He pushed it right to me and the slug gun lowered the boom. 45min from start to finish. I'll post a pic as soon as I down load them off the camera.

Re: Team 9

we need to get some more deer entered in to this contest if we are going to have a chance. Anybody heard how tetro, tiger81, or hoythottie seasons are going?

Re: Team 9

Well, I had a dissapointing gun season this year with no good bucks comming into range. I did have a 130# 10 point on the opening morning but elected to let him go. I didn't shoot any does during the regular gun season b/c we can use our leftover tags in a three day, doe-only, late season in mid-Jan.

Hopefully I can regain the drive I had before "the incident" and get back to my 5-day a week hunting schedule. I'm gonna try wacking a doe this week to try and get the adrenaline pumping again. Hopefully that will help snap me out of this daze I've been the last couple of weeks.

Don't worry guys, I won't let the team down!

I'll at least wack a bunch of does before the year is over.

I been around, no luck yet, getting cold here its supose to be -16 Celcius this weekend, definately going to get out there. Been busy at the house for the last week or so.(changing rooms around and painting etc.). Hoping to get a chance at getting something, I'll be feeling horrible if I end up the only one woithout points on the boards.
