He came drifting by along with a really nice 8 point. They were both the same age class, 2.5 years, but this guy had a pitiful rack compared to the other buck. I decided he would make a good choice for my mandatory cull buck this year so I stuck him at 15 yards. He ran about 30 yards and piled up. Didn't even have to track him. That's the way I like it! 6sixpoint_nobrows Posted October 24, 2006 Report Share Posted October 24, 2006 Re: Team 18 Backstrap Fever Congrats...here's my update HAd to work saturday and sunday but was able to get out there at about 5 with my dad... at about 5:20 i looked up the ridge and saw a doe and 2 fawn...before i got out there i grabbed my rattling antlers and some tinks 69 trphy buck lure...the win was perfect to use it so i set out my scent...and did a small rattling sequence...about 5 minutes later i saw the does come out of the corn field...about 5 minutes after that i heard a four wheeler and my dad goes look kyle theres 7 more running this way...they where on the west side of the creek and the other 3 where on the east side...it was a group of four wheelers...they have been screwing up my hunting all year and have been doing it on purpose because they cant hunt the ground ( they are the lease tenits' kids, and the land owner wont let them hunt) well anyways the does to the east ran down to me about 30 yards i was about to make a shot on one of them then they spooked because they qauds got even close and they ran in the timber...i then began to try and stalk the deer on the west side of the creek after they made there way farther north...by the time i got to the timber's edge they where gone. i came walking back to my dad furious because of those kids blowing my opprutunity at a deer...my dad said just for the heck of it i should hit the horns a little bit and then lets back out because it was getting dark...i did a small sequence and about 30 seconds later i looked up and my big 8 pointer TR was standing 50 yards looking mad as could be...i was going nuts..i slowly nocked an arrow and got ready for him..he smelt the scent and put his nose donw and started walking to me...he got to about 40 yards and started munching on some of the cut beans...all the sudden i heard the four wheelers comeing back...and so did he...he looked up and turned around and walked back in the timber...chance blown.... Next weekend is our MZ hunt, so hopefully something nice will show up. I did alittle scouting this morning and had a doe and fawn nearly run over me at less than 10 ft. 6sixpoint_nobrows Posted October 31, 2006 Report Share Posted October 31, 2006 Re: Team 18 i had a great weekend! only got to hunt sunday mourning....got in the stand late...when i was walking in i passed a bedding and several deer jumped up...about 15 to be exact...and with them was my big 9 point Joker...they ran about 30 yards and stopped and acted like i wasnt there...i could see the rut is in full swing because Joker had his nose to the ground and chasing all them doe's every where...thye hung around for about 20 minutes just at about 60 to 70 yards running around the bean field...in the group was this small 4 pointer that i see just about every time i go out it seems like...i finally made it to my stand and watched this little buck and the other deer passed on running through the woods and the fields...at about 8:30 i saw the small buck leave and i saw him come back running with a limp and he kept looking back..i didnt notice them limp that much but you could kinda see it and i didnt put much thought into it..i came back a couple hours later to hunt the afternoon...i saw a nice 8 point with a huge drop tine...or what looked like a drop tine from 80 yards with binoculars...im almost positive it was...either that or a stick hanging in his antlers...but i can almost say for sure its a drop...he never came any close and worked out farther in the beans...about an hour later i saw the same litle 4 point running with his nose to the ground into my Renzo Doe decoy which had tinks 69 doe in rut all over it...he came into it and stopped at about 40 yards and walked over to it...now i deffently could see the limp and he looked a little busted up...so im pretty sure he got in a fight with that 9 point for getting to close to his doe's...lol....i decided to let this little buck go...lately i have seen just a lot of good deer, in the area and feel confident enough on bagging one of them...each time i get closer and closer and i think its going to happen this weekend..i get out of school wednesday and im done so that gives me a lot of free time to bowhunt....good luck to everyone and i hope i can slam on of them monsters this week...good luck to all! I have to go do the college thing tommorow morning but I will be back out there for the rest of the week and the weekend. How has everyone else been doin? I did take a doe at about 200 yards with my 7 mag, but since I've already entered my bowkill buck, it didn't gain us any points. I may go out tomorrow but I'm not sure yet. I've got a couple of weeks to fill my doe tag and my buck season is over so I may just wait for better weather. Sorry I won't be able to give more than 5 points this year. Sometimes things work out this way I suppose. Oh, well out of my last 9 deer only two have been does, I guess I'm due. Thought she was a mature loaner roaming around but apparently not. It's a bummer though because they eat soooooo good but there aint much there. I'll post up when I get a chance, I've got to get to skinning and I've got some things to do tonight. I'll try to post tomorrow. Sorry I didn't slam a buck for you guys, the season has been dismal and they changed our late buck season to draw only. I didn't draw a late buck tag but if I had I could have popped a pretty decent 3X3 today. Maybe next year!! Good luck to you all, my season is over now it's time for feathered creatures!!
