19- Team String Music

Re: 19--TEAM STRING MUSIC

Hey everyone. I'm hoping to get out Sunday to do some hunting. I've been pretty busy lately.

As for my strategy, I have two locations: The one I mainly use, it overlooks a holler. The deer seem to use it as an escape route or to travel through to get to their bedding area. So I plan to hunt that one quite a bit. The second area is a hunting blind that stands at least 10 ft up in the air. My neighbor on my land is allowing me to use it for crossbow hunting. Underneath is a corn feeder (here in Ohio you can bait deer). And I plan to use that a few times around sunset.

So what's your guy's strategies? Well good luck everyone! Hopefully we can get some points on the board!

Re: 19--TEAM STRING MUSIC

Well guys I got a doe on the first day of my hunt and one on the third day of my hunt on my brand new 400 acre lease grin.gif. I will be posting the pics of the tag and the deer either tomorrow ( Sunday ) or some day this week. I still have the opportunity to shoot a buck in Northwest Ohio so I will still be trying for those extra points wink.gif. So far I will be posting the five points for the doe and seeing if I can add more. I hope you like the pics. I still have the blood from the gutting process on my arms in the pic tongue.gif. The pic was taken after dark so you'll have to excuse the "red eye" that I have. I hope everyone else is having good luck as well. I'll talk to you later folks!

Here it is!!! At the bottom of the index page there is a drop box that says something like "show all posts active in the" - "last week". If a thread drops off the page it just means that noone has posted to it in that designated time. Just change the drop box to 2 or 3 weeks and it will magically reapear!!

Re: 19--TEAM STRING MUSIC

Thunter, I have had the same issue this year. No matter where I am hunting there just don't seem to be any bucks. I have only seen one from any of the stands I have sat in all season. Last year was the complete opposite. It's funny how each year changes like that. Thanks for the 5 points!

Re: 19- Team String Music

Sorry I haven't checked in earlier, but between moving into our new house, work, and doing a little hunting I have had no time. I hope everyone is having a good season. I have been chasing the elk around and have had no luck, but the deer are thicker than hair on a dog. My nephew was out from PA. and we managed to get him a decent buck.

This morning (the 10th) I decided to get serious with the deer hunting. There had been a dusting of snow late yesterday and I figured it was prime to try a little rattling. My very first setup was about a mile behind a locked gate on a forest service road and approximately 200 yards above the road. This particular area has a mix of newly logged areas with some older logging spots along with some old growth forest with a lot of blow-down timber. Great for both elk and deer. After my first rattling sequence I followed with a series of grunts and added a couple of doe bleats at the end. Several minutes passed and I did another series of buck grunts and there he came, swaggering up the hill. He stopped to chew on an overhanging branch and then came straight towards me. He saw me pivot to get into position to shoot, but he just stopped and stared. I got to try out my game cart and was pleased with it's performance. Now if only the elk will cooperate.

Here he is and there is another picture in the entry thread.

Nice deer elkoholic!!

We had our openng gun weekend the past week. Seen a lot of does, a 4 and 5 pointer. Since Ive already killed a doe and have my meat trying to hold out for a nice buck now!! I still have 2 more weekends to hunt and found some nice rubs. No signs of rut yet but hoping if it stays cold maybe next weekend may be better.
