Re: Team 22

well if I count points the non western way I guess he would have been a 10pt. Last year was a good year lots of bucks. I have heard that the area I hunt has some bucks with lots of bone on their head. I hope I can find one for the contest. I am also hoping to head to AZ in DEC for a Desert Muley.

How are you doing with the elk whitetailtrax?

[/ QUOTE ]

I have only been out a few times, but the hunting has been exceptional!!!! I've been very fortunate to see some great bulls and have passed up shots on two young 5x5's. I went for a short evening hunt on Wed. of this week and bulls were bugling like mad! Got to within about 70 yards of a beautiful 6x6 but just couldn't get him any closer. Will give it a couple more tries and then get the rifle ready.

Have you been chasing the elk around?

Yeah I have. I have been hitting the Ovando & Patomic areas. I have been hearing a few but that's it. I did call in 4 hunters last Sat.

I really like the Ovando area. Have you tried Blanchard Creek just west of Clearwater Junction? I have rifle hunted in there and seen elk, so I'd bet you could find them now. A few good whitetails and muleys in that drainage too!

Well team, I let us down. I shot a doe last night but couldn't find her. The story is in my hunting log. I feel horrible that I lost her. Going to wait a week or 2 since I walked around the area last night and today.

Don't sweat it too much even though I know it stinks right now. We all hate it when that happens, but it happens to everyone at some point in there hunting career. Shake it off and keep after'em!

Iwas in my stand Sunday. I feel asleep and had a doe walk right under me. I woke up to her breaking a stick. I couldn't get shot of on her. Then about an hour later I had a 6 pointer bed down about 50 yards from me. I watched him preen himself then he got up and went back towards the cornfield. I went to another property that evening and had a nice eight pointer come in and hang out at about 21 yards. Guessing he weighed about 160 pounds. Nice buck but he will be real nice in about a year or two. It's just early in the season and I know the caliber f deer that are on these properties. I will be heading out in the morning to try again.
