Swamphunter
Re: Team 22 Try the water source...it has been in the 20's here at night, and low to mid 50's during the day. I hunted a well worn trail that led down to a water source to get my spike this year.

Swamphunter
Re: Team 22 Good deal! Congrats! BTW guys did you see what happened on Team 20?? Don't forget to get a pic of you with the deer before it is caped out. They had shot a nice buck but lost the points because the guy who shot it only had a pic posted of him with it caped out. It is in the rules, so make sure to get a good photo.
sskybnd
Re: Team 22 well team i ant doing to good this yr so far, this weekend was about the same, it was'nt a full moon but maybe a half. but it was still very bright outside, got busted by three deer in my food plot at 5;00am still got in my stand though, and about an hour and a half one came in on my left side and as i went to stand he busted me again, that was pretty much it for sat, went and did some scouting found a new rub line with fresh scrapes, but dont know how to get into the area it is super thick along a dry creek bed, i think it to late to cut a trail into it and sunday i told my hunting partner what had happen to me an told him we might be able to double team them i went about 100 yrds to the left where that one busted me and he went about 100 yrds to the right well he got busted by a doe i think only becouse he was only about ten feet off the ground, so were going to lay off that food plot for about two weeks and hopefully they will start using it again,

I'll bet once the pressure is on and before the rut, they will be holed up in the thick stuff but good. That would be my plan of attack. c_lou
Re: Team 22 Connected with a doe. Sunday, Oct. 15th. I got to my stand around 3:15. I haven't sat this stand this year so I had to put the seat cushion on and get my e-z hanger up. I was situated and ready to go around 3:30. I have a new fawn bleat call that I wanted to use. I wasn't sure what it was suppose to sound like so I just gave it a shot. I called a total of 7 times within a 5 minute span. It worked because a few minutes later I notice a doe to the south coming from a known bedding area. I stood up immediately. She was coming in slowly, and didn't act nervous. As she closed the distance and got behind some blowdowns, I picked up my bow and got ready. She walked through a small shooting lane at 3o yards, makable, but she was still closing the gap. She kept walking toward the corn field, unaware that I was there. She got to a lane, 20 yards, and stopped. I was at full draw with the 20 yard pin settled behind her shoulder. I hit the release and watch my arrow hit high. She went down right away. I hit her in the spine. I felt horrible, but I nocked another arrow. She came into another lane and this time the arrow found it's mark. She died shortly after the second arrow hit only 15 yards from my stand. All this and it was only 4:05. About 5 minutes later I had a nubbin' buck come in from behind me and eat and laze around for about an hour. The same time I had 2 turkeys make there way around in front of me. Around 5:30 or so, A doe and fawn came off the same bedding area the first doe came from. They moved off. I got down and met my FIL and he helped me get her out. I am going to take some time off from hunting. I want the area to be fresh and ready for when the rut heats up. Pictures to come tonight. Swamphunter
Re: Team 22 Heading for bdboy53's sweet spot today. Produces year after year. Starting to cool down, snowed some last night and still is on the ground. Leaves are all down now and the buck activity seems to be on the rise from watching the fields. This area usually produces time after time for someone in the hunting party and there are some bigger deer here. If stand hunting doesn't work, we are going to do some drives. Hopefully I will tag another buck today!
sskybnd
Re: Team 22 another weekend gone this one a little better, swamphunter we pushed that creek bed, and my buddy got a button buck out of it, only deer we seen in there, and i blow it sat i went and put my climber about 150 yrd from where i got busted, it was my fault this time, all me, i was sitting in my stand at 2;00 and was kinda warm and the wind was blowing and couldnt hear anything except the leaves blowing i was about 25 foot up a tree on the side of this hill that went into a small draw, well i was fidgeting alot and realy couldnt sit still, i wasnt but a 15 foot higher then the other side if the hill, anyway about 3;00 i felt something crawling on my stomach and stood up and lifted my shirt to see what it was, and had my back to the hill, well when i finish looking i turned around and at about 38 yrds, i paced it off was a big 10 point we both got startled he blow once and ran, he didnt lift his tail so i dont know if he realy knew what i was or mybe didnt smell me what do you think swamphunter, about 60 yrds and started walking from when he came. i left my stand on the tree and got out of there, so im hoping he'll come back there were about 6 scraps and rubs in a area well that i could see from my stand. Swamphunter
Re: Team 22 If the wind was in your face and he blew..I'd say he smelled you, or at least saw you. Either way, he knew you were there and I wouldn't expect to see him there again except for maybe during the rut.
