LLBUX
Re: Team 24 Good by me. Weather looks good for our Sunday opener. Gonna skip sunday AM and hunt Sunday afternoon. I have a 4 day weekend the next weekend so I'll hit it hard then. Good luck all!
wtnhunt
Re: Team 24 that name sounds good to me. Went out yesterday afternoon, had a group of 4 young does sneak in on me and I didnt see them coming until they were about 20 yards downwind of me. Expected them to come through in front of me. They all passed behind me within 12 yards. Never tried to turn and draw, was still an hour of light left. Didnt see anything else, but things should get to picking up soon. Guest bigbuckmiddaugh
Re: Team 24 don't matter to me on the name, i'm not picky. I tried bran last year. work pretty good, didn't drag them in for miles, but they ate it.

slughunter
Re: Team 24 I dont care what you guys choose for a name, its fine by me. So tonight I went out to the ladder stand on my neighbors farm. its set up on a patch of woods that about 100 yards by 300 yards so it not that big. on one side of it theres a uncut corn feild (behind me) and on the other side there is a alfalfa feild (in front of me). I got out there a little earlyer than normal but I was happy to be in the stand again. after about an hour of waiting and watching about 100 different squirrels I happened to look behind me and there stood a small 6 pointer about 8 yards away and getting closer. so I slowly reach for my bow to prepare for the shot. at this point he is not on the other side of the tree from me and he cant see me. so I slowly raise and turn in preperation for the shot. when he comes back into veiw he is only about 4 yards from me, and at that point the wind starts to blow and he lifts his head in my direction and starts to focus on me. at this point I am overcome with buck fever but got my head in the game. so he turns and starts walking away, so I draw and then voice grunt in hopes he will turn a little for a shot, well instead he takes off running and I never saw him again. I had a good 20 minutes in the stand but I was so upset I got down and headed home. I was happy to actually be seeing deer in my area and I am defenitly going to be focusing on this stand location. Guest Broncho10
Re: Team 24 DAng Slug, should have stayed there, you left at prime time, never know what might have been following him in. On the other hand, I understand your frustration, has happened to me before and will happen again. Just makes you want throw your dang bow at the junk sucker, get soooooo close, and no reward. There will be more and better days. Just have to look back at it and thank God for just letting you be out there and to be able to enjoy the great outdoors in many ways other people can't. SOunds like a great setup, I wouldn't give up on it. Good luck everyone, starts Sunday for me. I don't think I will be able to sleep until then. wtnhunt
Re: Team 24 Didnt make it Saturday morning, but did get out for a bit yesterday afternoon, saw some does on the way back after getting down again. Went this morning and had a 4 point get within 6 yards from the bottom of my tree around 7:20 after I had grunted a single time about 7. He hung around for about 25 minutes, had several opportunities to draw with bow in hand and release ready, but was hoping the big 8 we got pics of recently was nearby. Kept hearing another deer grunt just over the ridge deeper in the woods where this deer came from but it never did come over the ridge where I could see it. Saw a couple mature does about 8, but they never came in range. Supposed to be near 90 here today, doubt that I will make it out this afternoon. LLBUX
Re: Team 24 Went out for our opener on Sunday and was skunked. 88 degrees when I went out at 4 and still 75 when I came out at 7:15. Guest Broncho10
Re: Team 24 Well....my strategy on "Pitchfork" didn't work out quite like I planned. I setup just the way I wanted, had the wind perfect, he just didn't ever show up. That's the way it goes. I believe the weather has something to do with it. When i was seeing him coming out during the day the high temps were between 75? and 85? F, yesterday it got up to 93?. Way to hot for me, and probably to hot for him. I did see a doe and 2 fawns at 20 yards, that was the only action I saw all evening. It is back to work for now, I won't get another chance at him until next weekend. I do have a spot I will hunt if i get off work early, but I am not counting on anything too great from that place. it is a piece of public land and I will be hunting it with a recurve. Good luck to everyone and I will keep you posted.
13littleones
Re: Team 24 So happy to finally get a picture of this buck this year. I live in the state of Indiana and this buck lives in Cen. Missouri on my parents farm. I drove 7 hours 3 different times and spent $280 on nonresident bowhunting and firearms tags trying to get this buck last year (TO MUCH FUN). Snipe
Re: Team 24 Looks like the hot weather will be here through the weekend...I have a new plan. Since we have been in a drought for the last year..I plan on setting out a pail of water and hunt it instead of the feeding areas...
wtnhunt
Re: Team 24 Cold front moving through here today, right now bringing highs down in the 70's instead of the 90's. Think the unofficial high was 93 here yesterday. Might try to slip out this evening for a bit if I can. Should be some good movement. Have not hunted my new trail to the bean field stand yet, hoping to hunt it this weekend.

[/ QUOTE ] That's a good idea...really....I read an article that said to take a bucket or barrell of water and bury it and set the top of the barrell at ground level. Fill it up with water and it will give you a natural watering hole. Not sure if it works, but it is worth a try. Good luck!!
slughunter
Re: Team 24 so yesterday I wasnt really planning on hunting and I had to mow our lawn after school which takes about 3 hours. but as I was mowing I look at the edge of the soybean feild and there stood a doe and fawn. so I go and tell my grandpa and ask how I should stalk them. he said there wasnt really a way you could get close enough for a shot with the strong wind. so I took this as a chanlenge, so I throw my gear on and jump on the atv to get around them to the woods. I was about 250 yards away and they could see me but they didnt pay much attention to the atv and kept eating. when im out of sight I go down a trail, wrap around the back side of them and go into a small valley that has a ATV trail that would come out about 40 yards from them. I get my bow out and slowly crawl to the top of this trail and there they stood, having no Idea I was there. I get my bow up and prepare for the shot when all the sudden the fawn runs into the woods and the doe comes at me and stops 25 yards away on the edge of the woods ( they didnt spook cause of me). I draw, aim, and release. but I must of jerked the trigger on accident becasue I missed just in front of her. It was awsome though, my first archery stalk ever, and I did it all without spooking them. to bad I didnt get here. I still got a long season left. -shane

slughunter
Re: Team 24 5 points for team 24 Today was the first day of the 2 day youth gun hunt here in WI. I didnt make it out in the morning but I didnt really feel like it anyways. So I thought I would Have my grandpa drive out some woods to me around mid day or so. So we drive out a small 1 acre woods that holds a lot of bucks, but nothing came out. On our way to the second woods We look in the feild and theres a doe by a "island" which is 3 or 4 trees and some brush in the middle of the feild. The doe saw us and ran into the island and so my grandpa droped me off and he went around with the ATV and ran up to the island, but nothing came out. so he gets off the atv and walks in and got within 10 feet of the deer before they ran out. A big doe ran out the side and I took a shot at her at about 60 yards away but it was a clean miss. then I look and a yearling doe is running right at me, so I raise my 12 gauge slug gun and took a shot. This time my slug flew correct and when she ran 20 yards past me I could see part of her lung hanging out of her side. as my grandpa drove over I put my hands up in the "feild goal" possition and he was thrilled. The doe only ran about 30 yards into a small patch of woods that we were gonna drive next. Now its time for a buck. I will have pics up ASAP -shane

Weather was a bit cooler and boy what a full moon we had ...Deer moved all night..Didn't see one deer all weekend while out hunting...I did see a good sized Bobcat tho... My shot fell about 5 yards short...It was a bit farther out than I shoot with my bow...I will be back next weekend...
