Re: Team 25

Hunted last night and saw the biggest squirrel in Oklahoma.....but that was about it. I am gonna go out here in a lil bit and build a ground blind and move my climber. I think this front coming in will have the deer moving this evening and for sure in the morning. I'm looking to lay the smack down today or tommorrow!

Re: Team 25

I'll be out Saturday morning and hopefully Sunday morning. Sunday afternoon my dad's friend is having a christening for his son and my dad is the godfather. I'm not sure if we are going to hunt Sunday morning or not, but I sure would like to think so. I'm really hoping I get the chance to connect this Saturday.

Re: 25 - Backstrap Brothers

Well.. here's the update..

Our bow season opened up yesterday and me and my dad were in the right spot. We saw 15 deer. We only sat for about 4 hours or so. Another guy that was hunting to the north of us about 100 yards away shot an 8pt and I watched his buck come running by my stand and pile up. His buck piled up about 60 yards to my right.

Before his buck came and died, we were watching a bunch of does and bucks feed on acorns. We watched bucks rub, scrape and fight. Even had a flock of turkeys come by at about 40 yards. The bucks and turkeys both stayed out of range.

Before he came thru to recover his buck, my dad shot a doe. We had 5 does come running up the ridge and stop right underneath us. I didn't want to shoot one of the does that was there because I saw a buck making his way up the ridge. My dad didn't know the buck was on his way up because he had leaves in the way. Anyway, he shot a doe with a messed up ankle. She was a good sized, mature doe.

This morning I went out with the guy that shot the 8pt yesterday morning. He was running late so that made me late as well. We just went spot and stalking for 3.5 hours or so. We saw about 10 deer. 8 does and 2 bucks. One buck was a 5pt and the other was one of the 8pts. Almost got to shoot a bedded doe at about 20 yards, but she busted me as I put my release on the string. But all in all it was a productive two mornings.

Re: Team 25

Couldn't let you guys drop to the bottom.

Saturday morning I was gonna stay in bed but once I opened the door I was ready to go. 40 degrees with a perfect wind. Got up in the tree and it was uneventful til about 7:45. I heard something up on the ridge to my left. So I eased my and down and grabbed my Lil Can. Let out a couple bleats. Here is came running like something fierce. I thought dang a yote. A young fawn comes hauling but right down the trail below my tree and cuts a right and goes right behind me. I thought well at least I know their here. Bout 8:10 I hear something behind me so I look over my left shoulder and there stands a yearling doe. Bout that time I catch something a little farther out. Here come MaMa doe. I never got to stand up so I am sitting there in my Viper X5 and I get my bow out over the side. By now they are at 10 yards. I am waiting on her to take the trail that runs right in front of me. That old doe flat out busted me. Stood there for 10 minutes stomping her foot. Meanwhile I am trying my best not to shake my arms off cause I 'm still holding my bow out finally she takes the trail and I draw......Mannnnnnt. She stops. The Release and.................right over her back. She bolt but the yearling is lost. I knocked another arrow and the yearling takes the same trail. Mannnnnnnnnt.............................Thwaccccck!!!! Right behind the shoulder a little high but looks good. The old doe is standing at about 60 yards behind some brush but keeps blowing. I knock another arrow...............bleat a little and finally she meanders off. I heard the little one crash so after 20 minutes I get down. To check my arrow. Find the one I missed and start looking for the bloody one. No arrow.............bout 1 step after where I hit her it looks like Dr. Dementos lab..........blood everywhere. Bright red trail to follow. Found her 40 yards later just out of sight. No arrow so I go back and there it is buried 5 inches in the dirt. She weighed in at about 55-60 lbs. I was a happy boy.

Re: Team 25

Congrats Hutch!!!

I plan to be out there again this afternoon ( weather pending), then definitely this weekend. This weekend looks like it'll be good. The rain should be gone by Friday night, then there is a cold front expected to be coming thru late Friday, Early Saturday, leaving great hunting for Saturday and Sunday.

Re: Team 25

Alright.. here's the update.. we didn't see a dang thing!!!! The wind just wasn't cooperating.. Winds were gusting up to 25mph or so and the deer just weren't moving because of it. This morning is a perfect morning to be in the woods, but I have no one to take me. My dad is upstate, my uncle was too tired and my neighbor had a halloween party last night so he definitely won't be making it out of bed anytime soon. Unless we try some mid day stalks while the deer are bedded.. I'll let you guys know.
