I have had 3 misses so far and now one wounded deer. I have missed two different does here in Rockland and I missed a doe Saturday evening in Sullivan and was able to nock another arrow on that doe and get another shot off, this time wounding her. I hit her low, but not a pass through. It was only a 16 yard shot! I don't know how I screwed it up!!!! It was more of a graze that cut under her vitals open. She left good blood for 200 yards but then the blood trail just got really light and eventually disappeared. We were only able to track her about 100 yards Saturday because it got too dark on us. So we backed out and went back in Sunday morning, hoping the rain would hold out and it did until about 3:30 PM or so. We searched from 7 AM - 9 AM finding really good puddles of blood late in the trail but then it all just stopped. While we were back at the house eating breakfast our buddy Bobby stopped by and said someone shot a wounded deer up on top of the mountain this morning. Turns out they shot the doe I wounded, so it's not like she is walking around wounded. Because she left the blood trail Saturday night, the coyotes were all over it. Our land had an influx of scat and tracks that night following the blood trail of my wounded doe. But it seems another hunter was able to get her before the coyotes and I'm glad. It took alot of pursuasion from my dad to get me back out there because I was still really bummed about all the misses and now a wound, but he managed to get me to go back out at 11:30 AM until sunset on Sunday. I didn't see anything but red squirrels and birds. The chickadees kept landing on my arrow thinking it was a branch and when the rest would go down because of the imbalance, they would fly off. Just haven't found what I am looking for yet. I guess after you kill so many you start getting really picky. Now I know how my wife feels shoe shopping. Everyone is seeing a ton of does upstate but no bucks. They can only shoot bucks because there are VERY limited doe permits up there, plus with the new antler restrictions, many spikes and forkhorns are walking. We have a sub and I'm supposed to be drawing a gasket in AUTOCAD.. But anyway, I really can't wait to get out there this weekend. It's raining right now so an afternoon hunt is shot. The rain is expected to stop in a little while though and the hunting should be cold and calm this weekend. Sunday looks like the best day. Saturday is supposed to be a bit windy. I didnt see anything other then squirrels and a yote.... bad weekend and it was the end of our rifle season. I still have the 7-point to add to the score. Ill get it up this week. Guys I saw the biggest bodied deer I have ever seen in my life come by my stand right before shooting light Saturday morning. I would guess he would weigh 160+ field dressed. I couldn't see the rack. I know there are 2 good deer in there a nice wide 8 and a good solid 10. Hopefully I will connect this weekend. I'll be there early in the morning. I have had 3 misses and wounded one.. My rest is to blame for it I think. Sometimes the arrow falls thru the center of the two prongs and usually instead of sitting on top of the two prongs the arrow sits between them and it doesn't take much for it to fall thru them. All the screws are tight as can be on the rest and I can't seem to figure out what's wrong with it. The rest was fine after hundreds of shots all summer, just I guess wear and tear set in and now it is darn near useless. I guess that's what I get for using the rest that came with the bow in the package. I'm getting a new rest for Christmas for sure. I'm really digging the WB.
