How do you catch a thief

We have had a lot of problems around where I live lately with thieves and vandals and Im trying to come up with a way to catch them on cam. A regular cam wont work because of the flash they would find the cam. I thought about converting one of my P41 homebrews to IR but I dont know much about IR so I didnt know how good the quality was or if it still put out any light for someone to be able to see it. I also thought about a external wireless flash and mount it quite aways from the cam but that would probably only get a couple of pics before they either stole the flash or destroyed it. Anybody have any ideas?

Re: How do you catch a thief

We (BobD and myself) are thinking of mounting our trail cams up really high over known areas I get tresspassers. 15+ feet high or so and angled down. Brushed up of coarse.

We can turn the flash off for ours (Moultrie 2.1 digitals)

We figured the guys are going threw during mid day when we are at work.

Our issue seems to be mainly during the rifle season when guys are tresspassing to hunt. If they see something easy to steal then Im sure they will.

But I have not had an issue with theft thankfully, just tresspassing on posted property during open season.

That and a few ATVs cutting threw my land during off seasons.

One guy went right threw my food plot a week ago.

agreed...my camera is a stealth cam digital..and it only flashes at night...so if they are coming through in the day you got them..half the time i never even know it has taken a picture of me because there is now sound and no flash...???
