1997xltlimited
Just picked up my first muzzleloader. Nothing fancy, a older traditions muzzzle loader. Not the new inline style, I got sabbots for it, but now need powder. What is better powder or the pellets? What brands?
HarvDog
Re: Newbie Questions Powder definitely lets you customize your load easier than pellets but pellets can be easier to deal with. I'm using Hodgdon Triple Se7en in my traditions muzzleloader.

too_pointer
Re: Newbie Questions Pellets used to come in only 50 grn., now they have added 30 grn. ones, so you do have more choices . The majority of shooters probably sight in with lose powder. I did, then went to pellets. With loose powder, I would start around 80-90 grns, then work my way up if it is accurate. I use 100 grns. of 777 pellets. If I was to shoot further than 100-125 yards, I would try to increase my powder load also. It all depends on how accurate your gun shoots. too_
Tecumseh
Re: Newbie Questions I'm with Harvdog loose powder to get the right powder bullet combo for your rifle.777 is what I use.

Jeramie
Re: Newbie Questions I prefer the powder hands down. IMHO its been far more accurate in most of my guns. Its also far less expensive. Ive been shooting Pyrodex for years with great results. A lot of people are trying the 777 but thus far Pyrodex hasnt let me down so im sticking with it. The only other powder ive considered is the Shokeys.
WABS
Re: Newbie Questions I'm with you Jeramie. I've been using Pyrodex Select RS for years and I'm in no hurry to change.
