Squirrelhunter91
Did some hunting this weekend on our land upstate and managed to bag a few bushytails. I shot one grey and two reds. The grey I got on Saturday and the two reds I shot on Sunday. I know the reds dont have the longest tails, but they count!! Red #1: Red #2: Proof that I shot two reds and didn't take different pics:

Jeramie
Re: Smoked a few bushytails this weekend..... Nicely done! What loads are you using? #6? Personally I use a birdshot with a 12ga. Granted the pattern is a lot larger but you end up with far less damage. [ QUOTE ] Do yall have fox squirrels up there??? [/ QUOTE ] Thats what I was wondering. Everyone down here calls Fox squirrels, red squirrels. I was thinking Fox squirrel until I saw them! Way different than the reds we have here... Squirrelhunter91
Re: Smoked a few bushytails this weekend..... [ QUOTE ] Do yall have fox squirrels up there??? [/ QUOTE ] Yeah we have fox squirrels in NY, but not in my hunting areas. We have greys, reds and fox squirrels. Then there are the color phases squirrels that are treated like the grey squirrels, with a season and bag limits. The two reds I shot are an unprotected species in NYS. They are treated just like groundhogs, porcupines and chipmunks. All year round and no bag limit. They aren't really pests, but occasionally get into peoples houses... There are alot of them around here, just hard to find because they are so small and quick. They chatter their heads off when you are around though. I only shoot them because they are VERY annoying during deer season. I know its all part of the experience, but it's just plain annoying. If you've ever had one sit in the tree next to you and chatter at you while bowhunting, you would understand. Jeramie, I was using a Mossberg 835 12 gauge with a modified choke and Federal 7 1/2 shot.

You must have been a little closer to the one red.... I thought you could only shoot 3" + shells out of an 835?!! Isnt that the large chambered shotgun?
