WIwhitetailhunter
Anyone know of any meat processors and/or taxidermists in the Buffalo Wyoming area? My brother has an antelope and mule deer tag coming up in October. I told him it might be wiser to take something in to a place there and have it shipped back to Wisconsin when it's done. Any ideas? Has anyone else done this and what's your opinion? Good thing, bad thing? Thanks for any info. guys!!

rifleman25
Re: Buffalo Wyoming ?\'s Every year I hunt elk near Walden Co. I take my animal up to laramie Wyo and they skin, bone and make the fresh cuts of meat. I just take it home that way and have my butcher work up some stucks and kilbasa with the trim as i hate burger. It gets expensive to ship meat home. 2-3 dollars a pund to ship it plus you still have tob pay the butcher to butcher it. I'd skin them in the field, take a cordles sawsall and split them right down the center of the back, then cut acroos about 4 ribs behind the shoulder, cut the feet off and you have quarters that will fit perfectly into an ice chest. If you plan to have a mount done I recommend having it done there, as the taxidermists know the natural look of the game better than maybe an eastern one would, and the hair has a good chance of slipping by the time you get home. If you have never hunted antelope before you will find out soon enough that not always but usually the weather is rather warm, and field care of the meat and hide are very important. Skin an antelope with in a couple hours of the kill is my reccomendation. I don't know where you will be deer hunting but if it is in a different place than the stinkey speed goats pick whick animal you want more and hunt that first, then worry about the other if there is any time left. Remember to take your camera along and get lots of good pics, be safe, be prepared to walk like never before ( bring some ben gay for afterwards) carry good optics, and shooting stix, be prepared for 20 gegree mornings and day time high around 60-70 degrees, and by god have fun. Is this a DIY hunt or with an outfitter?

ousoonerfan22
Re: Buffalo Wyoming ?\'s I spent the night in Buffalo on the way back home from Montana in July and that evening I drove up in the Big Horn mountains.I seen alot of mule deer plus some whitetails and antelope on the outskirts of Buffalo. The next day I enjoyed the Fort Kearny site and the Fetterman battle ground. Brian
WIwhitetailhunter
Re: Buffalo Wyoming ?\'s This is going to be a DIY hunt. My brother is going with a friend of his who has been out there several times. I'm not really certain where exactly they will be hunting only that it's in the Buffalo area. Thanks for the info guys. I will pass it all on to my bro and let him go from there.
