Insert Glue

Allright Goldtip guys, help a brotha' out here. After shooting ACC's for many years and never having a problem (other than the expense), I bought my first dozen Goldtip Pro Hunter's a couple of weeks ago. I lost my fourth insert last night inside my Block target. This one had a Muzzy on it too.

Anyhoo, what kind of glue do you guys use on your inserts? Obviously, I need to do something different. After I cut the shafts I cleaned out all the carbon dust and even tried roughing up the inside with a little piece of scotchbrite pad. Thought that would help. It didn't. Never had this problem with the ACC's, of course it has the aluminum inside. Thanks.

Re: Insert Glue

Man,

I had that same problem. 5 of my inserts came loose in my GT pro hunters.

I just bought some Loc Tite Super Glue gel, but I haven't shot broadheads yet, as I'm a little gun shy.

Re: Insert Glue

LOC TITE Super Glue Gel!!!!!! I started using it AFTER loosing many a insert and FP in my Block 4x4. Since changing to this stuff, I have lost ZERO, I shoot my BH into a morrel Yellow Jacket, and no problems here either

Stuff like this keeps popping up about GT's, I am gonna switch for next year........

At first I tried Bohning Ferr-L-Tite (hotmelt) just because it's what I've always used. I always liked it because it was easy to make adjustments if needed by simply reheating the insert a bit. Never had any problems with it. It apparently won't bond hardly at all with the carbon though. Just because I had it on hand, I also tried a couple with the Goat Tuff, but even those didn't hold. I really don't want to use cycroanylate (superglue) unless I have to. It's kind of hard to make further adjustments with that stuff. Right now I've got to go buy some more inserts before I can use anything!

Re: Insert Glue

Hotmelt all the way. i like the ability to rotate my inserts to be able to spin tune my broadheads. i simply heat a field tip in the insert, turn it a 1/4 turn and then spin again.

i repeat this until i find the perfect spot for that insert /broadhead combination..

out of the hundreds of dozens of arrows out local shop has made not one insetrt pulled out using hotmelt and these are mostly Goldtip arrows.

Re: Insert Glue

Here's the reply I got from Gold Tip:

The problem is probably the glue he used to glue them in. We cannot control what the dealers use to glue their inserts in with. We recommend our Tip Grip which is a high quality Cynoacrolyte that has been thoroughly tested. If you use this stuff you wont have any problem. My guess is that they used hot melt or a fast cure epoxy. With carbon shafts the Super Glues work much better as the shaft material is very porous and really bonds well. I would go back to the dealer and have him reinsert them a make sure he uses a reputable super glue, or Tip grip as we recommend.

That's exactly why I like the hotmelt too, but if the darn things won't stay in the arrow I've got to find something else.

Which hotmelt glue do you use Tony?

You better try and push that Muzzy through the backside of the block before you shoot it and ruin another broadhead.

Believe me, I tried.
