Guest MarylandQDMA
what is a good mix for fall and winter besides Brasicas? I was told not to plant brasicas in the same area more then two years due to fungus and insect problems. So I'm looking for an alternative for next year. wtnhunt
Re: Fall and winter mix In the past had always just went with a mix of winter wheat, rye and some annual clovers. This year I planted the hamann farms winter mix for the first time in two small plots. It is a mix of rape, purple top turnips, sugar beets and brassicas. Here is a link hamann farms seeds . dogdoc
Re: Fall and winter mix a mixture of wheat, rye, oats, and winter peas. Hard to beat for a fall/winter plot in my opinion. todd

dogdoc
Re: Fall and winter mix I'd plant about 100# of cereal grains and 15# of winter peas. A ratio of 75# of wheat/rye and 25# of oats--the oats will die on your first good freeze. todd
Guest MarylandQDMA
Re: Fall and winter mix DD - sounds good, I have a small area (50 yards x 10 to 15 yards) that I planted in Standside. I was lazy and did not set up the plot saver. Well I payed the price. the deer destroyed it. I'm hoping that I can still make good and get something to work in the area. With a first frost around the 31st of Oct. can I plant ASAP and still get a nice hunting plot? this only gives me a month tops to get growth. The other question is sunlight, how much? The winter peas in the Standside came up and are 6 to 8 inches tall, along with the purple top and kale (3 or 4 inches). so I did get some growth. and would guess I am getting minimal sun light. thanks for the info. Frank Reading your post a second time around, I came up with some other questions... you say that the first good frost the oats will die, what about the other seeds? thanks
