007hunter
I've been looking ino getting a .17 and was curious as exactly what the difference was of them two? Is there even a real difference except for bullet? Velocity? I'd like to get the .17 HMR but am easily swayed....
OUTSIDER
Re: .17 HMR vs .17 Mach 2 The hm2 is alot cheaper for the ammo. They are both flat shooters, just look them up online. You cannot go wrong by gettin either.

too_pointer
Re: .17 HMR vs .17 Mach 2 .17 HMR. is by far the best of the two. I don't even know why they made the .17 Mach
OUTSIDER
Re: .17 HMR vs .17 Mach 2 mach 2 is for the economical hunter/plinker. It is just flat shooting, kinda pointless but i bet that thing is sure fun.
jdickey
Re: .17 HMR vs .17 Mach 2 The .17HMR is a much better varminter... shoots a ballistic tip and hollow point.
lil hunter
Re: .17 HMR vs .17 Mach 2 it's kinda like a .22 lr, versus a .22 mag. The .17HMR is just a necked down .22 mag, and the HM2 is a necked down .22 lr. I have an HMR and really like it. I don't use it near as often as I'd like though. LETMGROW
Re: .17 HMR vs .17 Mach 2 I agree with Too Pointer. The Mach2 is a farce. I have a cheap .17 HMR which I have had some fun with. I bought it on sale for 139.95. It's a basic Savage bolt action. It will flat out flatten a Chuck at 100 yards though. The Mach 2 is cheaper to buy ammo for but I wonder how long the ammo will be readily available. Just doesn't seem you hear much about it after the initial introduction. I think the .17 HMR will be around for quite a while. IMO!
Bow Hunter Derek
Re: .17 HMR vs .17 Mach 2 The .17 hmr rocks. The only bad thing about it is that after owning one, you will quickly run out of woodchucks around your house to shoot at. You'll pick them off faster then they can reproduce. Just shot a fat one last night at about 105 yards. He was sitting up and it just laid him out flat. Never moved. I hear they do wonders on stray felines too. 007hunter
Re: .17 HMR vs .17 Mach 2 Dick's Sporting Goods is having a sale on a combo rifle+ scope for $199 this week. They are out of them right now but I got a rain check, so we'll see what happens. They better get a shipment soon cause there is a Gander Mountain across the street from them and I've been eyeing up a few from them too. Cabelas is haveing a sale on on a Savage .17 with scope for $179 but buy the time I figure in gas its basically the same price. I was just at Cabelas too but the computers for background checks was down or else I probably would have walked out with one...
