Born2Hunt
What brand and grain do you guys use for yotes if you shoot a .223?
Squirrelhunter91
Re: .223 ammo Well, surprisingly and luckily, my AR shoots the cheap 55gr FMJ rounds the best. I really lucked out with that one .. LOL.. But I use 55gr FMJ's.
WaCoyote
Re: .223 ammo Usually people shoot 50 - 55 grainers with their .223's. I hear a lot of talk about Black Hills. I'd just go buy a couple of boxes and use the ones that give the best groups. I reload for my 22-250 and the bullets I like best are BlitzKings, V-Max, and Ballistic tips. The very best though are 52 grn Target Hollow points. You want to talk Bang-Flop thats what you get with any one of these loads. I don't follow factory loads too close but I really like 40 grainers out of the 22-250. They are just instant death I'd have to believe the same would hold true for the .223 since it's the same size but just a little slower. I once bought some cheap Winchester White Box 45 grn Hollows in 22-250 and they are AWESOME. Try to find something like that. Good luck, hope this helps a little. WaCoyote
Re: .223 ammo I don't think a FMJ would be a wise choice in the .22 centerfires. The frangible "varmint" bullets deposit ALL of there energy into the yote bringing instant death. I very rarely get an exit hole. If fact I can only remember 1 since I bought the 22-250 3 years ago. I'd be surprised if FMJ's would give the same results. I would strongly recommend you spend an extra $1.00 per box and use a "varmint" tip of some sort. I've NEVER had a runner either. I have had a runner when I used to use my .308 with FMJ's though. Use the right tip in any 22 centerfire and you've got the PERFECT coyote gun. Absolutely lethal!!! WaCoyote
Re: .223 ammo Those are good but The only "splash" I've ever had was from a B-tip. Maybe it was a freak deal I'm not sure. I'd first look for a Blitzking loading (those are may favorite polymer tipped) or a loading with the Hornady V-max. Those are what I use in my 22-250. I'm going to shoot paper with my B-tips. Like I say though, It may be a coincedence but I don't want to chance it.

sureshot
Re: .223 ammo I have been shootign american eagle in my .223 for 2 years now, shot a ton of coyotes and get less than a 3/4 inch at 100 with it, most accurate shells I ever got from a box! I would never shoot the surpluss shells, I got a box of 50 from a freind and was goign to use them for gophers this summer and my bolt would not close, they are not sized correctly, they are mass produced and not as accurate, I bleive the american eagle are made by federal, good luck!!
