Perlitz ranch

Anyone ever go on a trip to the Perlitz ranch. I was looking at the website last night after watching a show from there on the outdoor channel and was amazed at the trophy prices. That 193" B&C they have shown would cost roughly $18,000 just to shoot. Thats doesnt include 10% tips either. They have some beautiful animals down there, but to pay this much to take a deer is just not worth it in my book and actually seems kinda crazy that people even consider this.

Re: Perlitz ranch

I'd never pay that much, honestly, I wouldn't pay anything to shoot a deer, except license fee's, or if I ever was asked to join a club or something. But to pay for a trip, then have to pay to shoot a deer, then pay depending on how big he was. Honestly, I don't think it's right, but, to each his own. The wonders of a capitalistic society huh?

Re: Perlitz ranch

I looked at going to one of those places this year and noticed all those trophy fees at different places. I was in shell shock. I figure if I am going to hunt a trophy deer why should I pay for the size of the rack. It don't make sense to me. I didn't really like the thought of hunting a high fence property either. But I won't judge those that do. The have more money than I do.

Re: Perlitz ranch

I wouldn't pay nearly that either. Would I pay for a trophy buck? Sure... If it cost you to travel to a big buck state (area) then you are in effect paying for the chance to take a big buck.

Granted I would assume you're guaranteed a buck of that size if you pay for it but regardless, your paying either way.

Personally I would find some land to hunt in Canada, buy a new rifle, fly up there, hunt, and still have money to pay some stuff off long before i would spend $18k on any deer.

That's not hunting

Yes, it is. May not be the type that you are used to, or capable of going on, but it is still a hunt. Just because you do not like it, doesn't mean that others don't.

Thats exactly right. Until a hunter has hunted a hig fence you can not make a judgement. How can you say something is better or worse until you have experienced it first hand? I have hunted a high fence twice and both trips you never even knew the fence was there. If I could afford it and it was legal I would fence my property in Nebraska because it is the ulimate management tool. Not all hunts on a place like that are that high either. I have hunted at Texas Hidden Springs Ranch both tmes. That place is owned by Keith Warren and a trophy hunt was only 3500.00 and a management hunt 9 pt or less and scoring under 170 was 2500.00 Thats not too bad. I just expect everyone to not comment on hunting a fence until you actually have an experience behind one to make such a comment.

Re: Perlitz ranch

That is a lot for a deer, almost as much as the deer that was on the deer farm posted about not so long back. I would never spend that much for one deer hunt.

As for the high fenced operations, have to agree with rifleman here. While I have never been to a high fenced ranch and probably never will, I think so long as the property is big enough, it really is fair chase despite whether the books agree or not.
