New Pics of my NY food plot

I went out today and took some pictures of my food plot to share. Some of you may remember from the spring that I put in about 3 acres of clover and about 1 1/2 acres of brassica and 200 white spruce trees. I have had a great deal of success and can not wait to hunt on the plot

This picture was taken right next to where my ground blind is.

This picture shows a closeup of my clover and chickory

This picture shows some of my brassica notice how big some of them are compared to my friend Rangerclay's hand. I figure there is about 200,000 turnips if not more in my plot. I can not wait until the first frost.

This is a picture of one of the trees that I planted, they did really well this summer with all the rain.

What do you guys think?

What do you think of the Chickory?? I've had good luck getting it to grow, but couldn't say that it attracts deer at all. Clover on the other hand. . . laugh.gif!

I watched a doe and two fawns go right after the chickory, some of the chickory leaves were bigger than the deers head!! According to the magazine Quality whitetails which is put out for QDMA members, there are a lot of benifits to having chickory in your food plot for deer. Maybe after awhile your deer heard will get used to having it and start to eat smile.gif can only hope right!!

how do you get it to grow to that point ?? The deer are mowing mine down as fast as it starts to grow !!

I have a much larger food plot which I would imagine is the reason. My brassica was not touched all summer by the deer and they just started eating the greens on the top and according to the people I talk to once they first frost hits it will turn very sweet and the der will start hammering it, I guess you can only hope grin.gif

Do you have other food plots as well? If so, when did you plant the Brassicas?

Haven't seen Brians plots, but at Marc and Lynn's, they plant Brassicas in late summer when clovers, beans, and corn are already up. Before first frost, those other species are preferred to brassicas and they take a BEATING. After the first frost, the brassicas sweeten up and become preferred. Add a tree stand overlooking the brassicas, and you've got Venison Stew. . . right, Marc??

Hmmm, Venison Stew, sounds like a good name for a tree stand. . . maybe you could wear a chef's hat while hunting it laugh.gif!
