Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
for those of you that use some sort of climbing sticks with your stands....if you have multilple stands up...do any of you just carry in one set of sticks and rotate them to what ever stand you are going to sit in? i am looking into getting some stands...and with those already being expensive (for me anyways)....i figured since i can only use one stand at a time, and since i hate the thought of my stand AND sticks being taken, i figured i would just buy one set of climbing sticks and set em up when i get to which ever stand i am going to use...anyone else do this?? Mach1
Re: climbing sticks/stand question For each of our hang-ons, we've got a set of climbing sticks. We usually purchase 2-3 stands (combination of hang-ons & ladder stands) per year for the last 3-4 years. I think we've got 4-5 ladder stands, 4-5 hang-ons w/ climbing sticks, 3 homemade ladder stands and my climber. For each hang-on/climbing stick setup, we've probably got $100 invested. Ladder stands are probably around $70 each. There's 3 of us (me, brother, dad) using them, so they all get used regularly and it would be time consuming to put up a stick each time a stand is hunted. hunterfisherman
Re: climbing sticks/stand question I buy a set of sticks for each stand. That way I can get in and up in the tree with little or no work
pointing_dogs_rule
Re: climbing sticks/stand question HI! I have used the following option once or twice. If the tree is worthless I will put "screw-in steps" at the top and then just use one set of Lone Wolf sticks at the bottom. I have long legs so the first screw in is usually fairly high. Carry in the climbing stick or (what I have done) hide the climbing stick under some leaves or wood pile near the stand and just attach it when you get there. NOTE: most of the property that I hunt is fairly "safe" so don't worry a whole lot. I would not do this in a heavily hunted area. Good luck to all & God bless the dog

Strut10
Re: climbing sticks/stand question [ QUOTE ] We have a set of sticks for each stand we have. Makes it really easy. [/ QUOTE ] Same here. But, I can't see why it wouldn't work carrying the stick in......other than they're kinda clumsy to carry. I can't see too many thieves shinnying 20 feet up a tree to steal a stand. That would definitely be a plus to carrying in.
hunterfisherman
Re: climbing sticks/stand question Same here. I can get them fairly cheap so I just have a pair for each stand
GWSmith
Re: climbing sticks/stand question If I have both of my Loc-On stands up at the same time...I'll use the climbing sticks I have to hang the stand and then put screw-in steps opposite the sticks steps on my way back down on one of the stands...then use the climbing sticks on the other stand. If I feel like hunting state land and hanging a Loc-on I'll chain and lock the sticks there because I cant use the screw-in steps. Most of the time to save the hassle associated with state land stand thieves...I just use my climber
MUDRUNNER
Re: climbing sticks/stand question I've never tried putting a ladder up at dark 30 in the morning before the sun comes up,but I don't imagine it's much fun or too quiet.I think pointing dogs rule's idea sounds pretty good though. I have screw in steps or climbing sticks at each stand so I can just sneak in and get settled.
VTbowman
Re: climbing sticks/stand question This was my game plan with my 1st set of sticks. Its a pain to carry in 4 or 5 sections but peace of mind is worth more IMHO. I coated mine to keep the clanking sounds down. I used that tool handle dip stuff. Its super tough as you know. I used black and a 2" paint brush to smear it on and texture it like bark. One 14 oz can per stick section so I really laid it on thick. I did this 8 years ago and its still going strong. I bought it at Home Depot. I have since gotten 3 more stick sets and now just leave them out. LOL 8 years older and 8 year more lazy I guess. AdvantageTimberLou
Re: climbing sticks/stand question I have ladder stands and it makes it easy, then again I am private land and just hope they are there in the morning. So far so good! I do have sticks and a strap on stand in the basement for hunts that are not on my land but at another spot someone has told me about. wtnhunt
Re: climbing sticks/stand question I have mostly permanent ladder stands that are in tried and proven locations. Got a climber I move around some. Built a stick ladder I planned to put out last weekend but never got around to it.
Hoyt03
Re: climbing sticks/stand question Dicks sporting goods has 16ft climbing sticks on sale for 25$ right now. For that price if you get one stolen it still bites but atleast it was only 25 bucks. I will not pay the high price of some of the climbing stiks out there. The 100 dollar ones in my opinion are no better then these 25 dollar ones.
